Song of the Day: 6th Avenue Heartache

6th Avenue Heartache by The Wallflowers. Released in 1996 on the band’s second album Bringing Down The Horse. The song reached the top 10 in both US and Canada charts. A couple interesting facts about the song. The song was written by the lead singer, Jakob Dylan, when he was 18 and it was the first song he ever wrote. Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers played the slide guitar on the song. The song featured in an episode of Friends. And lastly, the backing vocals in the song was performed by Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows, which makes total sense. Something about this song always sounded so familiar when I heard it and I could never put my finger on it, but once I read that, it is clear as day that it’s Duritz singing the backup vocals during the chorus.
