Song of the Day: Goodnight Irene

We’re traveling back quite a long ways for this featured song. This song was first recorded in 1933 by Lead Belly. Lead Belly also wrote the song and it has been covered by many artists of many different genres. Those artists include, The Grateful Dead, Johnny Cash, The Weavers, Eric Clapton, Jerry Reed, Jerry Lee Lewis and many others, but we’re going to feature Lead Belly and another cover version by Red Foley and Ernest Tubb. Tubb and Foley’s version is the one that I am most familiar with and I think a lot of classic country music fans will agree with me there. I hope you enjoy this old tune and have a great Sunday.
