North Carolina High School Football Playoff Matchups and Predictions (West Region)

Usually when high school football playoffs begin, it means fans bundled up in the stands cheering for their school to make a deep run.  That’s definitely not the case this year.  High school playoff football will begin on Friday, but fans will be dressed in their springtime attire.  Still, the excitement is there and anticipation for every school competing is very high.

Since The Sports Chief is located in the Charlotte-area, I will only be looking at the West side of the state matchups.  I don’t know very much at all about the East side, which makes it nearly impossible to predict games.  So let’s take a look at the West side matchups (that somehow include some East-side schools in the Raleigh region) that will be happening on Friday:

4AA

Green Hope (4-1) at Hough (7-0)

Predicted Winner: Hough

Hough is tough and its no coincidence that rhymes.  They are the #1 team in the state and are coming off a huge win against former #1 Vance.

Vance (6-1) at Ardrey Kell (6-1)

Predicted Winner: Ardrey Kell

This should be a fantastic matchup between two very good and evenly matched Charlotte schools.  With the impressive whooping that Ardrey Kell put on a very dangerous Providence team last week though, I’m going with the Knights.

Olympic (6-1) at Panther Creek (7-0)

Predicted Winner: Panther Creek

I don’t know much about Panther Creek, since they are one of those Raleigh schools, but looking at their schedule, they seem to win with ease no matter who they play.

Northwest Guilford (6-1) at Myers Park (7-0)

Predicted Winner: Myers Park

The Mustangs have looked strong all year and handled every challenge thrown their way so far.  I think they do it again led by strong quarterback play and a good defense.

East Forsyth (3-3) at Grimsley (6-0)

Predicted Winner: Grimsley

I’m definitely not picking a .500 team who is on the road against an undefeated team to win.  Grimsley all day.

Hillside (5-1) at South Caldwell (3-2)

Predicted Winner: Hillside

I’m not sure how South Caldwell got the home game in this one, but I don’t think they fare too well against tough matchups.  We’ve already seen that this year with losses against Statesville and Alexander Central.  And Alexander Central beat them handily.

Butler (6-1) at Glenn (5-1)

Predicted Winner: Butler

Butler came within three points of an undefeated Myers Park team to being undefeated themselves.  I think they go to Glenn and hand them a double-digit loss.

Hickory Ridge (5-2) at Providence (6-1)

Predicted Winner: Providence

Providence had been tough all year long until last week’s thumping they took against Ardrey Kell.  I’m not sure what happened there, unless Ardrey Kell is just that much better.  But I still they the Panthers are the better team here.

Dudley (6-1) at Watauga (5-1)

Predicted Winner: Watauga

Asheville (5-2) at Weddington (7-0)
