AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am DFS Preview

Another week and another beautiful golf course to be played at in Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Last week, we nearly hit a few home runs with Sam Burns and Keegan Bradley contending for the win, but both slipped in the last 2 rounds, which plummeted our standings. Golf is so exciting with its possibilities in DFS and Pebble Beach is one of the most challenging to dissect. The field looks to be around 150 golfers and Patrick Cantlay is the highest ranked at 11th in the world. It has to be one of the weaker fields we have seen this year. Their TV ratings may struggle with the Daytona 500 coming on Sunday too, but we will see.

There will be 2 golf courses being played on this weekend, with Pebble Beach Golf Links getting 3 days and Spyglass Hill getting 1. Even though this tournament is considered a Pro-Am…it won’t be this year…so the course should play faster. I am definitely a sucker for these beach courses and I think it brings out the best in my DFS abilities. My “go-to” choices aren’t really in the filed this week…which are the ones who are accurate and good scramblers…so this should be fun. I will be looking at Driving Accuracy, Strokes Gained Around and Approaching the Green, Putting and maybe some Sand Save Percentages. Pebble Beach is a short course that requires intense mental concentration. The golfers are going to miss fairways, since they are so narrow…but it is what they do when they miss that matters.

Tier 1: Patrick Cantlay ($11,300)

I tried not to overthink this one. The favorite to win the tourney…Cantlay’s game is perfect for Pebble Beach. He gains strokes all over the course…he is top-5 in Around the green and top-15 in strokes gained in total. He is a top-50 putter on the tour and drives it at a 70% clip in terms of accuracy hitting the green. I think you can go high with Cantlay and fill your field out with some gritty vets.

Tier 2: James Hahn ($8,000)

I am a believer in James Hahn. For some reason, I got off of the Hahn train last week and paid the price, he nearly won the Phoenix Open. His game is similar to Cantlay’s in that he is top-100 in almost everything. Accuracy is 70%…he is a solid putter ranking in the top-50 and gains about a stroke on the field all-around. Also, he is playing on the green 74% of the time because of that accuracy. Did I mention he’s had 3 straight top-10’s? Hahn is a steal at 66/1 to win this thing.

Tier 3: Jim Furyk ($7,400)

Here is the gritty vet. Jim Furyk is 1st in Greens in Regulation, top-10 in accuracy and 2nd in sand save percentage. This is a great indicator of an all-around golfer. Even if he misses, he saves the hole by bailing himself out. Furyk is 50 years old, but flash is not needed to win at Pebble Beach. He has not won a PGA Tour event since 2015, but at 125/1…I like one of the most accurate golfers.
