AEW Power Rankings: Week of May 20th 2020

The show before the PPV always contain a certain level of anticipation and excitement and this particular week was no different. While there are some changes that have been made to the card due to the matches on this week’s Dynamite, the PPV card still looks good. A couple of people that I wanted to point out, but aren’t ranked due to them not being current talent are Arn Anderson and Jake Roberts. The had a great promo on Wednesday night. Here are the rankings for the week.

5: Britt Baker and Nyla Rose

The biggest takeaway from this match is the fact that Britt Baker could be out of action for a while. That spot should’ve never been done and now it looks like things in the women’s division are going to be shifting from their original plans. Hopefully she isn’t seriously injured, but other than that, the match was ok, not great. It just so happens that there were only five declared winners this week so they get the 5 spot.

4: Rey Fenix

Speaking of injuries, Rey Fenix had an injury in his match with Orange Cassidy, but other than this fact, it was a good match. I hate that he won’t be able to compete in the ladder match tonight, but on the bright side it doesn’t appear that his injury is too serious. He picked up the win this week and I thought it was an entertaining bout.

3: Jon Moxley

Moxley has opened the show quite a bit lately and it is a great spot for him. He defeated 10 in the opening segment of the show. He is the champion going into Double or Nothing, but oddly enough, he isn’t going to walk into the arena with the belt. While it may not have been the best segment, it was a meaningful segment.

2: MJF

AEW

AEW

MJF had a squash win against Marko Stunt and I will say that AEW does a wonderful job with squashes. They’re usually not entertaining, but this one was. MJF and Jungle Boy should be a fun match tonight and I’m excited to see what happens.

1: Matt Hardy and The Elite

AEW

AEW

The show closed out on a great note. Matt Hardy and The Elite got the better of The Inner Circle at the show’s ending segment. Matt Hardy was the main beneficiary this week because he picked up a win against Sammy Guevara in the main event. I also want to point out that I don’t think there is a better seller than Sammy Guevara in AEW. He was selling Hardy’s cutters wonderfully on Wednesday night.
