AEW Double or Nothing (2020) Predictions

AEW

AEW

The card is full and it is time for another AEW PPV. Last year, Double or Nothing was the first official AEW PPV in its history, but this year, they’re established and have storylines and titles to add to the show. It will be difficult to top last year’s Double or Nothing, but I think it will be a great show regardless. First instinct tells me that this is an underwhelming card, but if you really look at it, there should be a lot of solid matches. There were a couple of last minute changes to the card, so it should be interesting to see how everything plays out I’m excited to watch and here are my predictions for the show.

* Predicted winners are bolded

* Match card is likely not in the exact order

-       Men’s Tag Team Match: No. 1 Contender for AEW World Tag Team Championship

Private Party vs. Best Friends

AEW

AEW

This match will take place in the Buy-In portion of the show and I think it will be the only Buy-In match of the night. I wish the tag titles would be on the line for the PPV, but I understand that they just don’t want to throw a team into a match. Private Party was on a AEW: Dark taping a couple of weeks ago back-to-back, but they haven’t been on Dynamite in over 2 months. Best Friends, however, have been featured a lot over the last couple months and have been on somewhat of a hot streak. This indication alone tells me that Best Friends will be your Number One contenders.

-       Men’s Singles Match

MJF (with Wardlow) vs. Jungle Boy

AEW

AEW

MJF is money on the mic and a nice win over someone like Jungle Boy could establish him even more in the ring. Although the match card doesn’t specify that Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt will be ringside, it would shock me to not see them with Jungle Boy. MJF is the future of AEW and they’re doing a great job with him thus far, with that being said, it would surprise me to see him lose, especially after beating Cody at Revolution. Excluding the Four-Way match at Fyter Fest (a match where he wasn’t pinned) last year, he has yet to lose a match in AEW, so it would be a total shock if he loses.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Dustin Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears

AEW

AEW

This match was just announced on Wednesday night, so there is very little build up time for this feud. I think Spears has the better chance to win just because the fact that I think they’re still trying to add layers to his character. He is established, but he hasn’t had any big wins. He beat Joey Janela in his last PPV match, but Janela hasn’t been featured a ton since the start of the TV show. I think Spears wins, but then again, it wouldn’t shock me to see Dustin Rhodes win.

-       Women’s Singles Match

Penelope Ford (with Kip Sabian) vs. Kris Statlander

AEW

AEW

Another last minute change here. Britt Baker will be out of action tonight and there are rumors that it could be a serious injury. These are just rumors for now, but she took a bad bump on Wednesday night and it looked pretty bad. Hopefully it is nothing too serious. Penelope Ford will replace Baker in the match, which I think could be interesting. I think Statlander will pick up the win though. If Baker’s injury is indeed serious, they could seriously push Statlander in the near future.

-       Casino Ladder Match: Match Opportunity for AEW World Championship

Darby Allin vs. Colt Cabana vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Joey Janela vs. Scorpio Sky vs. Kip Sabian vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Luchasaurus vs. TBA

Darby Allin winning this ladder match makes the most sense, but that TBA is an attractive choice. It could be a lot of people. The fact that it isn’t going to be announced until the show draws that much more anticipation. Of course, there are rumors and the fact that WWE laid off a lot of talent over the last month helps draw more attention to who this could be. My best guess is that it will be Matt Cardona, also known as Zack Ryder. He has spent the last 15 years in the WWE and all he has to show for it is a 1-day Intercontinental Championship reign, a 29-day US title reign, and 2 RAW Tag title reigns. It is embarrassing how they treated him in WWE, so I think he could go to AEW to prove himself, because he still has a lot to give. Other rumored names are Miro (aka Rusev), Jeff Cobb, Brian Cage, Curt Hawkins, Drew Gulak, and Sting. Yes, you heard that right, Sting. Don’t think that will happen, but I do think Darby Allin is the favorite to win the match regardless. If the mystery competitor is Sting however, I will lose my mind. It also could be a swerve to make us think it is a new competitor, so they bring a talent out that hasn’t been featured in a while, someone like Pac. Needless to say, I think we’re all intrigued as to who it might be. Joey Janela was added to the card and he replaces Rey Fenix, who will be out of the contest due to an injury.

-       Women’s No Disqualification Match: AEW Women’s World Championship

Nyla Rose (C) vs. Hikaru Shida

AEW

AEW

The No-DQ stipulation should tell you that this isn’t going to be a match, it will be a fight. The heel champion has only held the title for just over 100 days, so I don’t think Nyla Rose drops it here. Although I think Shida has a wonderful future with AEW and she is one of the most talented competitors in the women’s division, I don’t think she is quite ready for a title reign. Once her character develops a little more, she will be more than ready, but for now, I think Rose retains.

-       Men’s Singles Match: AEW TNT Championship

Cody (with Arn Anderson and Brandi Rhodes) vs. Lance Archer (with Jake Roberts)

AEW

AEW

This match probably has the most buzz surrounding it based on the fact that it is a new championship being brought to the forefront. Nobody knows what this title will look like and while I think it is a little corny to have the name with a broadcast company in it, I’m still anxious to see it. Also, Mike Tyson will be presenting the belt and it will be the first time in a while that he has been presented in the wrestling limelight. I think Cody will win just because the fact that he “can’t” wrestle for the AEW World Championship. It wouldn’t shock me to see Archer win, but I don’t think it happens. They could honestly extend this feud for a little while longer if they wanted to.

-       Men’s Singles Match: AEW World Championship

Jon Moxley (C) vs. Brodie Lee

AEW

AEW

Since joining AEW, there isn’t a competitor, maybe with the exception of Chris Jericho, on the roster that has been established more than Jon Moxley and I don’t think that stops in this match. Brodie Lee has been solid in his squash matches thus far, but he will have to prove himself against Moxley. I have no doubts that he can do this and I think it will be a great match, however, I just think Brodie needed a little more establishment time. Moxley’s odds are currently at -400 and I think that is about right. It feels like it is that far away at the moment. Lee’s time will come though.

-       Stadium Stampede Match

The Elite (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Hangman Page) and Matt Hardy vs. The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz)

AEW

AEW

Nobody knows what a Stadium Stampede match will consist of prior to Saturday night, but I’m excited to see what is going to happen. All we know is that there will be a ring at the 50-yard line of TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville and Falls Count Anywhere. It is a literal toss-up as to who will win this contest. It doesn’t really benefit either team to win and it doesn’t really hurt any team to lose. It should be an entertaining and fun match to watch and nothing more. The big question is if this match will go on last or if the AEW Championship match will. I guess we’ll find out sooner rather than later.
