Crown Jewel Results and Reaction

The Biannual Saudi Arabia PPV is over and my overall opinion about the show is a little bit shocking. I thought the show was fantastic. I didn’t expect a great PPV going into the show, but everything seemed to be hitting on all cylinders today. It is by far the best show that they have put on and I hope we see more of this to come. We saw some shocks and we saw some truly awesome moments during the PPV and here is my reaction to all of it. Full disclosure, my predictions article came out after the show already started, but all of my picks were final last night. It was accidentally set for tonight instead of this morning. I promise I didn’t cheat.

-      20-Man Battle Royal

Winner: Humberto Carrillo

LAST 4: Cedric Alexander, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Humberto Carrillo

WWE

WWE

This was just another normal 20-man Battle Royal with nothing really out of the ordinary. The ending was solid and I like that they had Harper and Rowan in the ring together towards the end. I guessed 3 of the 4 final competitors correctly, and the only one I missed was my predicted winner, Andrade. Carrillo was an interesting choice to win, because he has really come onto the scene as of late. I wonder what they have planned for him in the future.

-      Men’s Singles Match: WWE Championship

Brock Lesnar (C)(with Paul Heyman) over Cain Velasquez (with Rey Mysterio)

WWE

WWE

There were some things I liked about this match, but a lot of things I didn’t like. They booked this like an actual fight, which was fine, but I wanted to see wrestling. I expected some elements of the UFC to come out in the contest, but I also expected to see wrestling moves. I would say it was probably the worst match of the night, but it wasn’t terrible. It was a weird mix of fighting and an attempt to make it look like a wrestling match. The match only lasted a little over 2 minutes and it ended with Velasquez tapping out. One thing I did like was the fact that Rey Mysterio got a bunch of chair shots on Lesnar and it set them up nicely for a future match. I have a feeling this may be a one-off for Velasquez, but I guess we’ll see.

-      Tag Team Turmoil Match

Winner: The O.C.

WWE

WWE

I didn’t really expect for The O.C. to win here, but it made sense. They are one of the best that the WWE has to offer and it also gave a little peak of what to expect later in the show. This match went on a little long, but it was to be expected with 9 teams involved. It was a solid showcase for all teams and It will be interesting to see what The O.C. can create for the future with this win.

-      Men’s Singles Match

Mansoor over Cesaro

WWE

WWE

The result was to be expected, but it turned out to be a really solid match. I know there would be no way Mansoor would lose in front of his home crowd, no matter how much the commentary team talked of how much of an upset it was. I knew if they were given sufficient time, it would be a solid showing from both involved. It lasted just under 13 minutes and Cesaro was the perfect opponent to put the hometown favorite over.

-      Men’s Singles Match

Tyson Fury vs. Braun Strowman (via Count Out)

WWE

WWE

I didn’t really see a logical way for Strowman to win here, although he was a heavy favorite. Tyson Fury was very raw in the ring, but I expected it. I give him a ton of credit for actually attempting to wrestle, unlike someone (cough, cough, Cain Velasquez). I don’t want to throw off on Velasquez though, because he can only do what is given to him, but I really thought the Fury and Strowman match was entertaining. Fury’s entrance was the best of the night, although there were a lot of good entrances throughout the show. The count out was the right way to go, even though Strowman takes the loss, it was a more suitable way to loss rather than getting pinned inside the ring. I doubt Fury makes another appearance in the WWE, but I wouldn’t necessarily mind it.

-      Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship

AJ Styles (C) over Humberto Carrillo

WWE

WWE

After I saw that The O.C. won the Tag Team Turmoil match, I really didn’t need to watch this match to know that AJ Styles retained. It makes perfect sense to get that moment at the end with Anderson and Gallows with their trophy and Styles with his title. Was that the only reason they won? Will there be a special angle moving forward for them? I really don’t know, but this is fine at face value for the time being.

-      Women’s Singles Match

Natalya over Lacey Evans                    * Match of the Night*

WWE

WWE

All I have to say is, Amazing! What a moment! The first women’s match in Saudi was a huge success. These two ladies were met with overwhelming cheers and smiles and it was just a wonderful moment. With that being said, Lacey Evans did not work as a heel in this match and neither did Natalya, but the dynamic of these two ladies just having a fun wrestling bout in front of this crowd in a historic moment was all this match ever needed. Lacey Evans continues to get better and better and I thought this was her best match of her career. Out of all the matches that Natalya and Lacey Evans have wrestled and will wrestle in, I can’t see any other moment topping this one. I loved every bit of this and I’m glad that a women’s match finally happened here. Emotions were high and to see all of the people in the crowd grinning from ear-to-ear and seeing the young children, especially young girls cheering and witnessing this moment was very special. As far match quality goes, it wasn’t the best match on the card, but it was by far the moment of the night, so it gets the Match of the Night award.

-      10-Man Tag Team Match

Team Hogan over Team Flair

This was totally the Roman Reigns show. Two superstars in this match were clearly the stars of the match and it was determined before the match even started. Based on crowd reaction to the entrances, it would’ve been stupid to not feature Roman and Randy Orton a bunch in this match, and that is exactly what they did. For the amount that they were featured, it honestly should’ve been just a singles match between the two, but I clearly understand why it wasn’t. It was an entertaining match, but for what it was going into the show, the potential of the match was capped to a certain extent. I enjoyed it, but it seemed like it was missing something.

-      Men’s Falls Count Anywhere Match: Universal Championship

Bray Wyatt over Seth Rollins (C)

WWE

WWE

The Fiend is the new Universal Champion and it was a shock to most, but if you read my predictions article it shouldn’t have been. I predicted that Wyatt would win and if Rollins wins the title back on Monday, you should bring me to Vegas the next time you want to gamble on some wrestling. This was an awesome match and this was everything that Hell in a Cell should’ve been, but I’m glad it happened here. Falls Count Anywhere was a great touch and it made for an excellent showcase with the lighting and the outdoor stadium. Rollins used the curb stomps numerous times and The Fiend kept popping back up. This is amazing to see, but I wonder when the keyboard warriors on social media will start disliking Wyatt. Only time will tell, but I’m loving every minute of this. As far as match quality is concerned, this was the best match on the card, but I’ll give the nod to the women’s match.
