WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Predictions

The biggest wrestling event of the year is finally here, and we have a great card to watch. We are back with the two-night format yet again and I enjoy it. Some fans are wanting to go back to the single day WrestleMania, and I get it, but I like having a weekend devoted to the biggest event of the year. It looks like Night 1 is going to feature 7 matches and Night 2 is going to feature 6. The good thing about this card is that there will be a lot of great action and there could be many possible outcomes to all matches. We are seeing a lot of what fans in general want to see, and it gives me vibes of WrestleMania 35. We could see a lot of title turnover. Not that title turnover isn't a common thing at WrestleMania, but it seems like all titles could be in different hands after this weekend. I would venture to say Night 2 seems to be the heavier handed night, but Night 1 should be great. I guess we shall see. I not waste any more time though, here are my Night 1 predictions.

WWE

-       Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship

Austin Theory (C) vs. John Cena

I said in the intro that I think all title could switch hands, well, I take it back. I think most of the titles will switch hands, but the US Championship will stay with Austin Theory. This match is clearly a put-over type of match for John Cena and I can’t see him (I should just end the sentence) having a small run with the belt. Not at this point of his career. Cena is fully embracing the Hollywood life and I don’t think he has any interest in winning any more titles. This match should be great for both performers, but especially Theory.  A win against John Cena on the biggest stage and the brightest lights would tremendously impact his career in a positive way. I expect these two to really get the crowd invested and it is kicking the show off, so it is even that more special. Odds are in Theory’s favor as well. Theory is favored at -325 and Cena is a +220 dog.

WWE

-       Men’s WrestleMania Showcase Fatal Four Way Tag Team Match

Braun Strowman and Ricochet vs. The Street Profits vs. Alpha Academy vs. The Viking Raiders

This match clearly isn't getting the spotlight that the others are, but it should be a fun contest. There are a lot of great teams in this match and hopefully we will see the tag division get better shots with the championships soon. Strowman and Ricochet are favored here slightly, but I really don’t understand why. Not that any team really has anything to lose or gain here, but a shot at the belts in the near future is likely a possibility. The only team that I don’t see winning here is Alpha Academy. They are hanging on by a thread with Otis leaning towards MMM. That leaves Chad Gable to embark on a singles career and I think he beyond due on a singles run with a minor belt in the very least. I’m not going to think too hard about this one, because it is clearly a match that was just thrown together and the same goes for the Women’s match in night 2. Strowman and Ricochet have even odds, the Raiders are 2nd with +135 odds, the Profits are +175 and Alpha Academy is +1400, which is pretty staggering to look at, but understandable.

WWE

-       Men’s Singles Match

Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul

Logan Paul mentioned that this is the end of his current contract. We don’t know if this is the last of what we see of Paul in WWE, but I have to say, he has earned my respect as a performer. I still don’t like the guy, but he has put on great matches. This match with Rollins should be no different, however, Rollins should win. Logan Paul hasn’t gotten humble yet. Yes, he lost to Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel, but he didn’t get humbled. I know it isn't going to happen, but fans would love to see him get squashed. If Paul has a future in the WWE, he needs to be taken down a step. He hasn’t earned all of the opportunities that he has been given. Nobody gets a shot at Roman Reigns within 3 career matches. Not that I really care, but it isn't fair to those people that have made a career of it and have shed the blood, sweat and tears for 15 years to just get a shot on the show. I don’t care how big of a star he is. Rollins basically said the same. I know he is just in character, but he basically said that Logan Paul’s meteoric rise, could be the death of the wrestling business, and to a certain extent, he is correct. He was referring to up and coming wrestlers getting the wrong idea of how to make it to the WWE, but I agree with his sentiment. Rollins is favored at -190 and I really hope he wins.

WWE

-       6-Woman Tag Team Match

Becky Lynch, Lita and Trish Stratus vs. Damage CTRL

This will be a fun mix of legends of the past, current legends and legends in the making. Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky are benefitting greatly by sharing the ring with all of these women. Trish and Lita teaming with Becky Lynch is so cool and I’m sure all involved are excited to share the ring with these legends. It is great that Trish and Lita are still having matches because there are a lot of fans that didn’t get the chance to see them show off their wrestling skills. They were actually good wrestlers and not just entertainment. The Legends are favored in this match at -190, but to be fair, I could see it going either way. Neither team really gains anything except bragging rights, so it is a toss-up to me.

WWE

-       Men’s Singles Match

Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio

This feud is exactly what I thought it would be and that is a great thing. Dominik has really embraced the heel role. I thought this match was going to happen last year at WrestleMania, but I’m glad I was wrong. This feud needed more time and they have made the most of it. Dom has gotten a lot more confident in his mic skills and is only going to get better in the ring. If I have to guess, there will likely be some sort of outside interference to ensure Dominik’s victory, but I think that is OK. He is a heel after all and storyline aside, it is really cool to see a father/son match at WrestleMania. I’m sure it will be a cool moment for them. Dom is favored over his father at -200. It will also be cool to see Rey getting inducted into the HOF this year. Don’t worry though, he isn't ready to put away the boots and hang up the mask just yet.

WWE

-       Men’s Tag Team Match: Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship

The Usos (C) vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

The Usos have had both belts for over 300 days and have held the SmackDown belts for over 600 days. It is time for some new champs. It would surprise me if the Usos retain here. KO and Sami are favored currently at -900 and the Usos sit at +475. This match has been months in the making and I think these guys will tear the house down. It is still a little uncertain as to which match will close the night, but this one has a good chance. If fans had their say, it probably would close out the first night. We’ll see what happens, but no matter the result, it should be a great match.

WWE

-       Women’s Singles Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship

Charlotte Flair (C) vs. Rhea Ripley

I hated the way that Rhea Ripley was brought into the title picture back in 2021, but prior to that, she had a big WrestleMania match in front of no crowd against Charlotte Flair for the NXT Women’s Championship. Personally, I thought it was the best match of the PPV. These two ladies should put on another classic tonight as well. These two are a perfect pairing to face each other. Ripley is a -550 favorite and I really can't see Charlotte retaining here. Charlotte will always be in the title picture, because she is indeed, “the opportunity”. Flair is the one you go through to make a name for yourself. Rhea has already done so, but this match needed to happen in front of a full crowd. I’m glad that were going to see it tonight.
