AEW Revolution (2023) Predictions

AEW’s first PPV event of 2023 is finally here and the card is loaded. AEW likes to give you your money’s worth when they charge you for a show and tonight’s PPV is no different. As of today, there are 10 matches on the card including the Buy-In portion. For this predictions article, however, I will only be highlighting the main card. The build has been decent for this show, but I think this easily could’ve been a 5-match card and it would’ve been perfectly fine. I’ll not waste any more time explaining though, let’s break this down.

*Predicted winners are bolded

AEW

-       Final Burial Match

Jungle Boy Jack Perry vs. Christian Cage

With a match called “Final Burial”, this should be the nail in the coffin for this feud, pun fully intended. It feels like this feud has dragged its feet for the last few months and a lot of that is due to recovery for Cage. Christian Cage hasn’t wrestled since September at All Out when he defeated Jungle Boy. I think Jungle Boy Jack gets his revenge and puts Christian Cage away for good.

AEW

-       Men’s Singles Match

Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks

The JAS is barred from ringside and this should be a fun match. Jericho always makes a rivalry interesting and he and Starks should be no different. Starks had a lot of momentum a couple months ago, when he was going toe-to-toe with the champ. He is well on his way to a big title or at least, the TNT Championship. Maybe, they will revisit the Powerhouse/Starks feud? We’ll see, but I don’t think Jericho will get the win here, but I have thought that in the past as well and he has gotten surprising victories. I still think Starks will win though and Vegas seems to think so as well. He is favored at -250.

AEW

-       6-Man Tag Team Match: AEW World Trios Championship

The Elite (C) vs. House of Black

This match could’ve easily been on a main event of Dynamite in between PPVs and it would’ve been ok. There has been virtually zero build for this matchup, but it should be a fun match to watch. The odds of this match are a lot closer than I thought. The Elite is favored, but only at -200. I don’t think there is a chance that they drop the belts, but I guess we shall see. They have only held the gold for 51 days. It seems like it has been a lot longer, but they will at least have a 200-day reign. I would almost guarantee that.

AEW

-       Women’s Three-Way Match: AEW Women’s World Championship

Jamie Hayter (C) vs. Saraya vs. Ruby Soho

Sadly, this match isn't too interesting. The build has not been good, and they just decided to throw Ruby Soho in for the heck of it. Hayter is an overwhelming favorite -1250, but I really don’t understand why. Sure, I think she will win, but I wouldn't consider her an overwhelming favorite. She has held the belt for 104 days and I think it will continue, but considering that this is a three-woman match, any of these ladies could walk away from Revolution as champ.

AEW

-       Texas Death Match

Hangman Adam Page vs. Jon Moxley

This one will get nasty. Moxley is known for violence and blood and guts, this is his style of match. Vegas seems to think that it is a swerve though. Hangman is pretty heavily favored. He currently sits at -650 to win. I don’t really understand the distance, but whatever. Moxley picks up the win in a match where nothing but pride is really at stake.

AEW

-       Men’s Singles Match: AEW TNT Championship

Samoa Joe (C) vs. Wardlow

This has been a very solid feud and I’m totally invested here. Wardlow is a huge favorite here, but the thing that kind of confuses me is how Powerhouse Hobbs will come into play. He will face the winner of the match on the following Dynamite, but who will it be? Joe could easily retain here, but I think it makes sense for Wardlow to get the belt back after losing it by not getting pinned. I really like what they are doing with the TNT championship. We know Jade Cargill is going to hoard the TBS belt for a while, but the competition in the men’s division for the TNT belt is tight. I think Wardlow wins here, but after that, I really don’t know.

AEW

-       Men’s 4-Team Tag Match: AEW World Tag Team Championships

The Gunns (C) vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal vs. Orange Cassidy and Danhausen

The Gunns are favored to retain and I think it could go either to The Acclaimed or it will stay. I would love to see Danhausen with gold, but I just don’t think it will happen. For some reason, I feel like Billy Gunn will join his sons after this match. I just have a feeling about it. I think him with The Acclaimed has run its course and I think he will go back to managing his sons. I could be way wrong about that, but I have a gut feeling about it. I don’t know. This could be a total shocker or the opposite. I can’t really tell.

AEW

-       60-Minute Iron Man Match: AEW World Championship

MJF (C) vs. Bryan Danielson

I think I am probably the only person in the world that thinks Bryan Danielson will be the new champ. This match is catered to him. The only way that MJF will win is if outside interference comes into play, which is a good possibility, but Danielson has some enforcers of his own that aren't in matches on the main card. MJF hasn’t really made any friends in AEW, so who would help him out? It is pretty much a mystery. We know what Danielson is capable of for an Iron Man match, but it will be interesting to see MJF taken to his limits. MJF is a huge favorite at -5000, which is unbelievable to me. MJF’s reign has been flat to me. I think that may be part of his gimmick, but still. It was never going to live up to the hype of him earning the belt and the climb to get there. I think Danielson needs a shot with the championship and personally think we could be in for a little surprise here.
