Song of the Day: Streamlined Cannonball

Happy Friday everyone! I have selected a lot of bluegrass music this year and I wanted to stay with that theme today. Tonight at the LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina…Billy Strings will be performing and it will be a tribute of sorts to one of his musical influences, Doc Watson. He will also be there tomorrow night as well, but there are only seats available for tonight. Doc Watson is a local legend for us in the foothills and western region of North Carolina and I have selected a song named, “Streamline Cannonball” for today. A lot of musicians have covered this one and I believe Roy Acuff was the first to perform it. If someone can find definitive evidence on that, comment to us! I want to feature not only Billy on this, but another great bluegrass band Balsam Range, also based out of Western North Carolina in Canton.. They give Billy’s group a run for their money, especially in the speed of the song. The song is clearly about a train, which a lot of artists from 50-100 years ago liked to write about. I hope you enjoy us sharing Doc Watson with you this morning and enjoy this first March weekend!
