Song of the Day: Mule Skinner Blues

We got another old song as the feature today. The original was written and recorded by the great Jimmie Rodgers in 1930, but his isn’t the one I’m going to feature today. I saw a video of Dolly Parton and Bill Monroe performing this song and I thought it was really cool. This was in 1978 and Dolly Parton already had a lot of success at that point. Combined, Monroe and Parton have careers that span 94 years. That is insane to think about. Monroe was one of the earliest covers of the song and he recorded it at the Grand Ole Opry in 1939. It was among his first RCA recordings. As for Dolly, it was her first big solo hit. In 1970, she reached number 3 and her next single was a number one. The rest is history. Enjoy this duet of two of country’s all-time greats.
