NFL Week 1 Reactions

Associated Press/Ashley Landis

Man, oh man what a day of football we had yesterday.  If that was any indication, we’re in for quite a ride this year.  Here’s some rapid reactions:

Kickers

It seems every year kickers get worse and worse.  Missed field goal after missed field goal.  Maybe they just can’t handle the pressure, but you would think if you’re one of 32 NFL kickers in the entire world then you would be able to handle it.  I had some money on the Colts game and Rodrigo washed that away.  Ol’ Randy couldn’t get the job done for Tennessee.  The Bears’ kicker did Bears’ kicker-like things.  And it goes on.  We’re living in a kicker epidemic.

Pit/Cin Game

What an insane game that one was.  It was a treat to watch, since I had nothing riding on the line in that one.  We didn’t know what to expect from Trubisky, but I was really glad to see him walk away with the win.  And what was Joe Burrow up to?  Giving the ball away like it was a promotion for the game.  Was that just week one rust for Cincinnati or have they come back down to earth a little bit after last year.  It definitely should be a fun division to keep an eye on this year if the Steelers and Trubisky can settle in.  I really hate that for Watt though.

Baker Mayfield

So much was made for this game since it was a revenge game for Baker.  But he and the Panthers fell flat.  Was he just letting emotions ride to high going into the game?  Or is this how he is going to perform more times than not this year with the Panthers?  It was a good game to watch from an NFL fan standpoint, but a HUGE disappointment for Panthers fans.  The O-line needs work very bad.  But the game was built up too much for Baker and the Panthers I believe.

Buffalo Bills

Are the real deal.  We knew they were going to be good.  They were really good last year.  But that game against a very good Rams team makes the Bills look like they are on a mission this year.  And I’m sure they are after the way their season ended last year.

Green Bay Screwed Aaron Rodgers

Aaron should’ve just retired.  Every year they have been slowly taking away weapons, but this offseason was just too much.  As great of a quarterback as he is, you have to give him some capable targets.  Maybe as the course of the season wears on, he will develop more chemistry with those guys, but after a 195 yd, zero touchdown performance, it could be a long year for Packers fans.  I’m ready for the Bears game next week.

Dallas Cowboys

Well…it looks like it is going to be a long year for Cowboys fans such as our very own Jarail from The Sports Chief.  The ‘Boys ended the Sunday night game against Tampa Bay with more injuries than points, which is never good…especially when one of them is your starting quarterback.
