Charlotte FC Report: Week 29, 2022

I have been busy doing NFL stuff, so there was not Charlotte FC article last week, but this week, we’re back. Unfortunately, I don’t have good news to recap. Charlotte lost their last two matchups 2-0 against Toronto and Cincinnati respectively. At this point in the season, Charlotte is going to have a difficult time clawing back into the playoff discussion. They have some difficult matchups in the next month of action and I can’t envision them gaining that much momentum to close the gap. While there’s only a 6-point gap between them and the 8-seed, that’s a pretty good amount of ground to make up with only 5 matches left. At this point in the season, I was hoping Charlotte would have been all but locked into a spot, but that isn't the case. They have a familiar opponent this afternoon and hopefully they can replicate what they did to this opponent the last time they met.

Charlotte FC will face NYCFC in a home matchup. Their last meeting went in favor of Charlotte, 3-1 in New York. This was only 4 matches ago and this time, they will be in front of the home crowd. With that being said, I don’t know how many will attend today. Not only because Charlotte is on a losing skid, but because it will be rainy all day in Charlotte. As long as there isn't lightning, they will play, but conditions will be dreary. In their previous matchup, Charlotte looked fantastic on the road, but can they break the spell of bad luck today? Hopefully so. Karol Swiderski, Brandt Bronico and Christian Fuchs put Charlotte on the board in their previous matchup in New York. Since they met in New York, Charlotte has only one goal to their name in 3 matchups. It’s been a bad stretch for them and even with lineup shifts and trying new things, Charlotte seemingly doesn’t have enough juice to get recharged. Hopefully the tides turn today, but I’m not expecting it. They have a tough slate upcoming for the rest of the season and they will need a miracle to make the playoffs.
