Charlotte FC Report: Week 12, 2022

I didn’t get to do a report last week, but it was a successful week for the home club. Charlotte FC took down Inter Miami FC, 1-0 at home and they advanced in the US Open Cup with a 5-1 win against the Richmond Kickers. The lone goal in the matchup against Miami came from the leg of newly acquired Andre Shinyashiki. He transferred from Colorado Rapids and was acquired for $3.3M and quickly scored in his first appearance. He got off to a wonderful start with his new club last week and hopefully he can keep the momentum going. Scoring wasn’t an issue in the club match against Richmond. They scored 5 goals and those scorers were Yordy Reyna, Daniel Rios, McKenzie Gaines (x2), and the guy I was just talking about, Shinyashiki. The upcoming matchup will be tough, but Charlotte has momentum heading into this home matchup. Will it be enough against this hot CF Montréal club though?

MLS

CF Montréal got off to a slow start but haven’t missed a beat since March. They’re currently third in the East and are a team that likes to score. Montréal is currently the best scoring team in the East, but a knock against them is that they give up a lot of goals. They have a goal differential of 1, but they give up a share of the 3rdmost goals in all of MLS. They are led by the leg of Djordje Mihailovic who has 5 goals and 3 assists so far in the season. They have a potent scoring attack and it will be on full display tonight in Charlotte.

Charlotte will have their hands full against this CF Montréal club. Charlotte hasn’t lost or drew at home since their first home matchup back in March against the LA Galaxy. Hopefully they use that to their advantage and hopefully the fans in attendance will be a factor tonight. I don’t think a draw here would be a bad thing, because Montréal is a tough club, but I think they can win. I would expect to see Charlotte going with a heaving scoring attack because of Montréal’s poor defending ability. I didn’t get a chance to mention it last week, but Charlotte lost Adam Armour for the rest of the season with a knee injury and it looks like Yordy Reyna is questionable for today’s matchup. There were some doubts that Christian Fuchs would be able to play, but I think he will be good to go tonight. Hopefully Charlotte can continue that home winning momentum.
