AEW All Out (2021) Results and Reaction

I know that this is late, but I guess better late than never. I’ve had a busy few days, but this has given me a little longer to reflect on what happened Sunday night. This was the best PPV in AEW history. I have seen all of them and the majority of them have been great, but this was another level. This PPV had an historic feeling before it even started, and it certainly will go down as one of the big landmark events for the brand. Every match hit its mark. Everything was smooth, and the show flowed very well. It was nearly a 4-hour show, but it didn’t feel like it. I’m not going to ramble on anymore, so here’s my reaction to All Out.

-       10-Man Tag Match

Best Friends and Jurassic Express over Hardy Family Office and The Hybrid 2

This started the action on All Out’s Buy-In portion. This match was fine for what it was, but like most Buy-In matches, they lack any kind of storyline foundation. It is weird seeing guys like Jungle Boy and Orange Cassidy in the preshow, but I realize the show was loaded as it was. Not a great match, but it was fine.

-       Men’s Singles Match: TNT Championship

Miro (C) over Eddie Kingston

This match went exactly how I expected. It was a hard-hitting match that ended with a successful title defense. I don’t think this feud is over though, which could spell a title change in the near future. We’ll see what happens, but I’d be totally fine with another match between these two. The low blow finish tells me it isn’t over between the two.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Jon Moxley over Satoshi Kojima

From one hard-hitting match to another one. This became a theme for the whole show, but it was great to see these two styles clash for one great match. When Moxley channels his NJPW wrestling style, it is a great experience. The match was great, but the biggest moment came shortly after the match. Minoru Suzuki is going to challenge Moxley and this is a match that many fans have wanted to see for years. It will be can’t miss TV.

-       Women’s Singles Match: AEW Women’s World Championship

Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. (C) over Kris Statlander

I loved this match. These two have great chemistry in the ring and everything they did worked. I mentioned in the predictions article that Statlander is simply not at Baker’s level yet, but she isn’t far off. She was great and let me tell you, I want to see this match revisited at some point in the next couple years. Baker is getting better and better each time you see her and I think that is the case with most of these women in AEW. The ladies have looked great in the ring and I think things are finally starting to click now that they have one mega star to build around.

-       Men’s Steel Cage Tag Match: AEW World Tag Team Championship

The Lucha Brothers over The Young Bucks (C)                      *MATCH OF THE NIGHT*

This very well could’ve been the best Tag Team match I have ever seen. Everything they did worked and worked well. The steel cage was perfect to contain these two teams and I expected a great match, but like I was saying before, I can’t tell you from fresh memory a tag match that was better than what we saw Sunday night. It was time for a title change here and The Young Bucks had a remarkable heel run as champs, so this was a perfect moment to shake things up. We’ll see what happens moving forward, but they made everyone following this match step up their game and that’s what I like to see in a show like this.

-       21-Woman Casino Battle Royale

Winner: Ruby Soho

Final Four: Soho, Thunder Rosa, Nyla Rose, Tay Conti

Battle Royals are meh, but I always enjoy that AEW has a different format for their battle royal matches. Ruby Soho was the Joker in the match and it wasn’t shocking, but it didn’t need to be. It is refreshing to see Soho in her natural element and AEW will be a perfect place for her. I didn’t think she would win, but it makes sense. The match was fine for what it was, but where do we go from here? Well, Soho will get a title shot, but other than that, I think Thunder Rosa is next.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Chris Jericho over MJF

We don’t see MJF lose a lot, but MJF tapped out to Chris Jericho on Sunday night. It was the perfect ending to a great feud and I don’t think anybody expected MJF to end Jericho’s career here. Both guys benefitted tremendously from this and we’ll see what happens moving forward, but MJF will likely be fast tracked to another big feud with someone like CM Punk and Jericho will continue to elevate rising talent.

-       Men’s Singles Match

CM Punk over Darby Allin

I’m not going to lie, I expected this to go on last. It made sense after it was all said and done, but this match was good. This match was never going to be about what went on in the ring. Nothing that happened during the match was ever going to outweigh the fact that CM Punk returned to wrestling since leaving WWE in January of 2014. Punk looked like he hasn’t missed a step. Punk’s style has seemingly changed a little bit and early on it seemed like he wasn’t really into the match, but as it progressed, it was great. The match was really slow at the start, but that was mostly because Punk wanted to slow the pace, so the high-octane style of Darby Allin couldn’t gain any kind of momentum. It’s great to see Punk back in action and wrestling is better off with him back.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Paul Wight over QT Marshall

This was never going to garner any Match of the Night consideration, but it served a purpose and served it well. The crowd was going to be absolutely amped for Punk’s return and this was a great buffer for the Punk/Allin match and the main event. It was good to see Wight back in the ring, but the years have been hard on his body and you could tell it on Sunday. We’ll see if he gets back in the ring or not, but this was the worst match of the night by a big margin but served its purpose.

-       Men’s Singles Match: AEW World Championship

Kenny Omega (C) over Christian Cage

We got everything we were expecting in the match, but all of the buzz was about the events following the ending. The match was great, and it is refreshing to see someone like Cage returning after a long hiatus only to put in his best work of his career. It seems like someone familiar in the WWE.  Nobody expect Omega to drop the belt and that was the perfect choice here. Omega was announced as the PWI 500’s Performer of the Year and rightfully so. In the ring, Omega is one of the best performers I have ever seen. I have been indifferent to his current title reign, but that doesn’t take anything away from how I feel about him as strictly a performer. With that being said. We had two massive AEW debuts on Sunday. Adam Cole, bay-bay, is All Elite and has rejoined The Elite and Bryan Danielson is All Elite. AEW has turned a massive corner in the last month and it is a great time to be a wrestling fan. After I watch a big show like this, I leave with my mind racing about the possibilities of what is to come in the future and that is a sign of a great PPV. Things are changing in the wrestling world and AEW told the world that they’re here to be the top company in the US.
