WGC-FedEx St Jude Invitational DFS Preview

After taking a week off for the Olympics, we are back to PGA Tour play. Congratulations to Xander Schauffele for getting Gold for the US. This weekends golf will be a bit different, roughly 60 golfers will be teeing it up at TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN and ALL will make the cut. Scoring will be a premium in selecting a solid lineup that can last all 4 days. You are not going to beat your opponent through picking cut-makers. The season is winding down and Playoff points are at stake. Collin Morikawa has finally gotten the attention of the world as he is the highest priced option at $11,000 this week.

TPC Southwind is a course riddled with water, kind of like Twin Cities a couple weeks ago. Driving Accuracy and Scoring are key components to lineup making in this event. In particular, I want to look at Fairways Hit percentage…most of the descriptions and course comments that I have seen say that if you hit the fairway, you set yourself up nicely everywhere. With no cuts, you have to look at overall scoring…a golfer that continues to gain shots on the field will always contend. With a smaller field, it is also totally up to you on how to pick the stars…do you settle for the solid mid-tier or go big with a chance that your low-priced option shocks the world?

Tier 1: Matthew Fitzpatrick ($8,800)

My pick to win this week is none other that Matt Fitzpatrick. The Englishman ranks 23rd in Fairways hit and 19th in Strokes Gained overall. He desperately needs a good finish to put himself in a good position for the playoffs and I think he gets the 1st win of the season here in Memphis. CBS Sports has him at 35/1 and I advise you to take him all day there.

Tier 2: Abraham Ancer: ($8,300)

Another International choice, Abraham Ancer from Mexico is statistically the best at hitting the fairway among all the golfers teeing it up this weekend. Ranking 8th in Fairways hit and 21st in Strokes Gained…that average Makes him a better choice than Fitzpatrick truthfully. Like Fitzpatrick…he could use a win this season. Crazy value at a crazy 45/1 number to win…Ancer could be the Answer at TPC Southwind.

Tier 3: Harris English ($7,600)

I have to say, I believe I like picking English as much as I like picking Morikawa. They seldom let me down and English is priced SO LOW! Why is that? He is top-50 in fairways hit and 33rd in Strokes Gained…Not to mention he has 2 wins this season and ranks 5th in the FedEx Cup Standings. The standings alone show that he is priced severely low and oh…did I mention his 1st win came here in 2013?!?! I fully expect him to be highly owned, but it seems too good to pass up…CBS has him at 45/1 to win.
