3M Open DFS Preview

What a historic weekend in England with Collin Morikawa dominating at Royal St. George. Even though he is absent from the 3M Open this weekend, he has truly put himself among the best of the best and there is no more argument. There will be big names in Minnesota though as Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen and Tony Finau will all be aiming for a win before the Olympics. Key statistics that I will be looking at are driving, ball striking and putting. Michael Thompson won this event the last time and even though he is not the greatest driver, he had the striking working in his favor.

TPC Twin Cities is located in Blaine, Minnesota and was designed by Arnold Palmer. it has been renovated a little since the initial design. It features length with 7,400+ yards of golf playing paradise…also there is water here, so watch out for that. Accuracy is semi-important, but the greens are decently large here. It has enough hazards to hinder the bombers, so do not go off of that strategy purely. Also, the putting greens are fast, so a calm and consistent golfer is a must. My strategy will be on the safer side for sure, mainly because of the weaker field.

Tier 1: Cameron Tringale ($9,500)

For some reason, I do not see many people talking about Tringale at the 3M. He is definitely my pick. His consistency merits a consideration here as he is top-25 in putting, top-50 in striking and is a solid enough driver to the point he does not lose strokes on the field. Triangle finished 26th at The Open and I think he is a great option in the top-tier…CBS Sports has him at 28/1 to win.

Tier 2: Gary Woodland ($8,000)

This is where I get risky…Woodland has not been in great form in a couple years to be honest, but he had been dealing with a back injury, which is healed now. Ranking 10th in driving, he is a bomber that has a decent enough striking game to contend. I believe in Woodland’s talent and I think it is only a matter of time before he gets a win. Take him at 50/1 if you like a risk.

Tier 3: Jhonattan Vegas ($7,500)

Here is a golfer I do not have much experience in picking. Vegas is a great bomber like Woodland, ranking 11th, but is top-40 in striking. His form has been solid as of late too…he has made 7 straight cuts and finished 11th at the John Deere Classic. The Venezuelan has the tools to win here and I like him at 66/1.
