The Open Championship DFS Preview

The PGA Tour stays in Europe and hops over to East England for The Open Championship. We will truly see the best of the best in this one, as we are playing in Sandwich, UK. After a hiatus in 2020…Shane Lowry looks to repeat his 2019 victory and Clariet Jug, but it will not be easy. Royal St. George hosted The Open in 2011 and we happen to have a few golfers in the field that placed well in that event. Australian Min Woo Lee pulled off a massive upset at The Scottish Open and will be in the field…also Lucas Glover puts himself in the field after winning the John Deere Classic. Winners will be aplenty and going with the strategy will be difficult. Ball Striking will be my main focus, as I believe it will generate a higher probability in winning here. Accuracy off the tee and scrambling will also be key. DraftKings gave us some interesting pricing and values this week, so hopefully I can find em’ where they ain’t!

Royal St. George is a historic course…it was the first to host a tournament outside of Scotland in 1894. The course itself looks amazing…but it does have a lot of challenges. While reading through the open.com course description…I found the word “bunker” A LOT! Golfers need to avoid these if they can. It is inevitable that you will find the bunker here, but it is so important to know how to get out of it. A bunker named “Himalaya” is on the 6th hole and apparently they made it larger?!?!?! It is 40 feet deep and it’s better to avoid it all together, but Bryson DeChambeau may try to launch one over it. I keep hearing about blind shots too. Weather is always a factor and it appears to be pretty nice this weekend in Sandwich…wind is really the only thing to worry about currently.

Tier 1: Dustin Johnson: ($10,200)

I have to do it…Dustin Johnson is the #2 golfer in the world or #1…I am getting conflicting reads on that…but this is too cheap for Johnson. One fact about Dustin is that he nearly won here in 2011. He finished Tied for 2nd and course familiarity will be major here. I understand that he has not been playing amazing golf as of late, but you can’t count out an elite golfer at this number. Oddsshark.com has him at 16/1.

Tier 2: Scottie Scheffler: ($8,200)

For $2,000 less…you can get the best driver in the game. Scheffler finished 12th in Scotland and his accuracy will help him here. I do understand that he is lacking a win in his career…but you have to start somewhere. Scheffler always contends and is listed at 50/1 to win here.

Tier 3: Harris English: ($7,300)

I could not believe this price. Harris English has won twice this season and is playing unbelievable. He is ranked as the 8th best driver in terms of ball striking and why on earth is he below $8,000 by the way?!?!?! The awesome thing about playing these Majors in DFS is that you can truly get your favorites in there and watch the go. At 75/1 according to CBS Sports, watch English play well…in England.
