Song of the Day: The Big Rock Candy Mountain

Happy Monday morning everyone! Today’s song of the day is from one of the best movies ever made, Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Just one of many great songs on an absolutely killer soundtrack, “The Big Rock Candy Mountain” was firs recorded by Harry McClintock way back in 1928 and has since been covered many times and been featured on several tv and movie soundtracks. But you simply cannot beat this original version by McClintock. It’s so good that every I hear it, it just instantly puts you in a good mood and makes you want to watch Oh Brother Where Art Thou if you’re not already watching it. The lyrics of this song have always grabbed my attention as well, since it is written about a hobo’s paradise and many of the things in it are fascinatingly fictitious such as bullfrogs with rubber teeth and streams of alcohol trickling down the rocks. A truly great song in a truly great movie!
