Elimination Chamber (2021) Results and Reaction

Last night’s PPV was “Awesome!!” Seriously though, it was another good show. All of the matches seemed to fit and the order that they were placed seemed to flow wonderfully. The show was very short considering how long shows used to be, but that isn’t in any way a complaint. If shows are short and they make sense, it is a wonderful thing. Things were changed a little bit prior to the show, but it ended up working out in the long run. There was enough predictability and enough shock factor to make it a great show and things just got a whole lot more interesting as far as the WrestleMania picture is concerned. Here are the results of last night’s show and my reaction to it all.

-       Men’s Fatal 4-Way Match

John Morrison over Elias, Mustafa Ali, and Ricochet

WWE

WWE

This was a spur of the moment match in the kickoff show, so it wasn’t really a match to get excited for, but that isn’t saying it was a bad match. It was a decent kickoff show matchup and it served a purpose. Keith Lee was scratched from the main card United States Championship Triple Threat match due to an injury and there needed to be a replacement. Any of these guys could’ve legitimately won the match, but Morrison was probably the best one of the bunch to win at the moment. Of all of the guys in the match, he had the most momentum due to his on-screen time with The Miz, but did it pan out? We had to find out later in the show.

-       Men’s Elimination Chamber Match: Number One Contender for Universal Championship

Daniel Bryan over Cesaro, Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, King Corbin, and Sami Zayn

WWE

WWE

They started the show off with an Elimination Chamber matchup and we got to see who the number one contender for the Universal Championship was going to be right off the bat. I said in the predictions article that it felt like only 3 people had a shot to win and that was practically the case. Daniel Bryan ended the match with a win and I think it was the right choice. There was so much interest in the possibility of Bryan and Reigns having a match at WrestleMania, but I felt like they had to give the fans a taste of that. For an Elimination Chamber match, this seemed pretty tame. I’m not saying it was bad, because in some cases, less is more. I felt like that was the case in this one. With all of that being said, the Universal Champion didn’t waste any time to start the match.

-       Men’s Singles Match: Universal Championship

Roman Reigns (C) over Daniel Bryan

WWE

WWE

Nobody was expecting a lengthy bout here, but I think it would’ve been a nice twist. Whoever Roman was going to face wasn’t going to have a long match with him, but I think it could’ve made things more interesting. The main goal of this particular match was to set up for Edge and Roman to have the spotlight and that was no secret. In the end it worked, but I think it would’ve been better if we got at least a 5-minute match. The match ended up being a minute and a half. Considering what happened at the end of the show, it would’ve been cool to see The Miz tease the possibility of cashing in on Roman. That would’ve made things even more possibly chaotic. With that being said though, I’m excited for WrestleMania and the main event between Edge and Roman Reigns. It should be an all-time classic.

-       Men’s Triple Threat Match: United States Championship

Riddle over John Morrison and Bobby Lashley (C)

This felt like it was going to go one of two ways. Lashley was going to retain and his storyline with Riddle was going to end or Riddle was going to win the US title by getting the victory over anyone but Lashley. It was the latter that happened, and it was a nice change up. Riddle could go into WrestleMania as the champion, but a lot of things could happen within the next few weeks. It was about time that Riddle won the belt and I think it was the right time for it to happen. I felt like this match was too short to be a great match, but it wasn’t bad for what it was. Also, I feel like I say this any time there is a triple threat match, but the WWE really needs to clarify that Triple Threats are no-DQ. I watch WWE enough to know that it is automatically the case in today’s wrestling, but it still seems unnatural when someone in the match does something that they normally would get DQ’d for.

-       Women’s Tag Team Match: WWE Women’s Tag Team Match

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler (C) over Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair

WWE

WWE

This match was very predictable and that isn’t always a bad thing, but this was by far, the worst match on the card. It was expected to see something come between Belair and Banks and it turned out that Reginald was the culprit. I don’t know what role Carmella will play in the upcoming feud, but it should be interesting to see what happens there. Expect to see Banks and Belair at WrestleMania, but as far as this match goes. It wasn’t anything special.

-       Men’s Elimination Chamber Match: WWE Championship  *MATCH OF THE NIGHT*

Drew McIntyre (C) over AJ Styles, Sheamus, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, and Kofi Kingston

WWE

WWE

There was a lot of great action in the ring in this contest and a lot of history between all of these compeitors. As far as what happened in the match, I have no complaints. Each competitor got their shots in and it was a perfectly fine match. Jeff Hardy did a lot better than I was expecting in the match and Randy Orton exited quicker than I expected, but nevertheless, it didn’t make or break the ending. I felt like it was going to come down to Sheamus and McIntyre in the end, but it happened to be AJ Styles and McIntyre. McIntyre retained, but in the end, it didn’t matter. It was a really good match though.

-       Money in the Bank Cash-In: WWE Championship

The Miz over Drew McIntyre (C)

WWE

WWE

While fans should always be on the lookout for a possible cash-in when there is an active MITB briefcase, this almost felt like it came from nowhere. Not that it was a bad thing, but I don’t think anybody expected The Miz to win the belt in the end. Bobby Lashley demolished Drew McIntyre after the Elimination Chamber title match and that gave The Miz a perfect opportunity to cash-in his briefcase. Apparently, Lashley and The Miz made a deal prior to this happening and it looks like we could see Lashley and The Miz pretty soon. This certainly changes a lot of presumed plans for WrestleMania and practically turns everything upside down. WrestleMania is only a few weeks away and we have absolutely no clue what is about to happen. That could be a good or bad thing, but it gives fans a reason to watch RAW every week. We’ll see what happens and watch all of this chaos unfold in a matter of weeks.
