The Unforgiven by Metallica. Released in 1991 on the band’s self-titled album, Metallica. Just want to say that I’ve never seen a self-titled album not be the band’s debut album. Definitely a different move to title you first 4 albums something else and then have the 5th one be the self-titled album. But maybe they done it because they were confident that this was going to be the best album they ever released and that the band was at their peak, which is all probably correct. Metallica, also known as The Black Album, had Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters and obviously The Unforgiven. Just an incredibly loaded album. The Unforgiven charted is a handful of countries but never really cracked a top 10, while the album itself charted at #1 in the US, UK, Swiss, Norway, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Canada and Australia. Pretty impressive for a heavy metal. But all that success can come with a price. As it turns out, a lot of the band’s fans thought the band “sold out” and that this album was not true heavy metal. There’s definitely some truth to it, and that’s why so many of the songs appealed to the masses, but at the same time I think you just have to appreciate great music.
