Aaron Boone’s Post-Game Quote is Why Everyone Hates the Yankees

The Yankees are one of those teams that when they lose, the rest of the sport fanbases win.  The Cowboys and Lakers are the same way when it comes to professional sports and it’s not a coincidence that a lot of Yankee fans also pull for the Cowboys and Lakers.  But last night’s loss to famed rival Boston Red Sox in the 1-game Wild Card Playoff game effectively ended the 2021 season for the New York Yankees and Americans outside of the Yankee fanbase couldn’t be happier.

So why do people love to hate the Yankees so much.  Well, there’s plenty of reasons, but Yankee manager Aaron Boone’s postgame quote last night pretty much sums all those reasons up.  If you missed it, the quote was, “The league has closed the gap on us.  We’ve got to get better in every aspect.”  When I first read that this morning, my first thought was “wow!  This guy is so delusional.”  But so is the fanbase.  Delusional and conceited.

Let’s get back to the quote, though.  “The league has closed the gap on us.”  I would LOVE to know what gap he was talking about.  The Yankees haven’t won the World Series since 2009 and since then eight different teams have done so.  They have also only won the AL East pennant THREE times since that 2009 season, doing so in 2011, 2012, and 2019.  In contrast, the Boston Red Sox have won the World Series twice in the last ten years and have won the AL East four times in the same time span.  I mean even the Tampa Bay Rays have won the division as many times as the Yankees have since their 2009 season.  Call me crazy, but the league is not closing the gap on the Yankees.  The Yankees have been trying to close the gap on the league.

It would be one thing if the Yankees have been having the type of success they did in the late 90’s-2000, where they won four World Series rings in a five-year span.  If Aaron Boone had made the type of comment after a run like that, it would have been justified.  Still conceited, but justified.  But to make that kind of a comment after the mediocrity of play over the last 5-10 years is absurd.  Boone obviously thinks the baseball world revolves around the Yankees, just as most of their fanbase does.  That is why everyone hates the Yankees.

Lastly, brace yourself for all of the “well we’ve got 27 rings,” comebacks from their fanbase.  If you read comments around the internet, I’m sure you’ve already encountered many of them.  That is Yankees’ fans favorite thing to say whenever their season comes to a disappointing end.  Once again it just shows their inability, or unwillingness to tip their hat to the other team while thinking the MLB revolves around the Yankees.  I’m absolutely not a Mets fan, but have so much more respect for that fanbase than I do for the Yankees.
