Possible Scenarios for the 2021 Women's Royal Rumble Match

I like to do a separate article for each Royal Rumble match to discuss possible scenarios for the match, rather than just predicting the winners of each match. This is the best time of the year to be a wrestling fan and I don’t think I have to explain why, but it is simply because it is WrestleMania season. The Royal Rumble means that the two winners will headline the biggest wrestling show in the world and will be set up for the biggest opportunities of their career. There are a lot of possibilities for the women’s match and I think it could be the most interesting match on the card on Sunday.

Odds-On Favorite

WWE

WWE

The EST of WWE has made quite an impression in her time in NXT and in the limited time that she has been on SmackDown, it seemingly is enough to convince odds makers that she is the favorite to win the 30-Woman match. Bianca Belair’s odds currently sit at +175 and she has been the favorite for a while now. If Belair wins, there are a lot of possibilities for her at WrestleMania. I think most people would want to see her face Sasha Banks in a big-match setting and I think both of their wrestling styles would bring the house down. Both are aggressive competitors and would complement each other. I also do not think a match with Asuka or possibly Charlotte Flair would be bad either.

Is The Man Coming Back?

WWE

WWE

I want to start this off by saying that I don’t expect Becky Lynch to make her return this Sunday, but history tells me not to rule it out. Obviously, her health is the main concern and if she is ready to make a return, I think this would be a great opportunity to bring her back. She had her child in early December, so that means she has roughly 2 months recovery time. Again, I don’t expect her to come back this Sunday, but I will say, it would be one heck of a surprise. She currently is tied for the 5th highest odds to win the match.

A Twisted Royal Rumble?

WWE

WWE

As far as character development is concerned, Alexa Bliss is unlike anything the Women’s Division has ever seen. Sure, they’ve had their share of dark and violent characters, but Bliss is working on something special. Since her dark alliance, if you will, with The Fiend, she has been on another new level. Bliss currently has the 2nd best odds to win the Rumble and to be honest, she I don’t think there is a woman on the roster with as much momentum as her. Her inclusion just goes to show that there are a lot of different paths that they can go down for the Women’s Royal Rumble and I wouldn’t rule out a win.

Possible Returning Legends?

Just like in the Men’s Rumble, the Women’s Rumble has the potential to bring out a few stars to the big match. The most likely returning legend for the Women’s Rumble will be Ronda Rousey. I know, I know, Ronda Rousey, A Legend? Yes, Ronda Rousey is a legend and I think there is a decent possibility of her returning for the Road to WrestleMania and what better way than to have her enter and win the Royal Rumble. Now that fans are going to be in attendance for WrestleMania and things will slowly return to normal, there isn’t a more perfect time for Ronda Rousey to have one more run.

Another legend that is rumored, but not likely is Paige. Paige hasn’t performed in a match since December of 2017 and has been sidelined by a neck injury. She and a few other will be appearing on the return special of WWE Backstage on FS1 and I’m glad to see that back on TV, but does it mean she will return? Probably not, but don’t rule it out. In October, she said her neck was feeling great. She has been very vocal about her displeasure with the WWE, but things can be settled.

More returning women to keep an eye on are Beth Phoenix, Trish Stratus, Eva Marie, and the Bella Twins.

A Free Agent Winner?

I had to include this because there is at least one free agent out there that could make her WWE debut and win the Royal Rumble. Wrestling fans aren’t the smartest people sometimes, but they’re far from ignorant and Tessa Blanchard is big name in the world of wrestling. Her controversy has followed her everywhere she has gone, but she has a lot of talent and I think the WWE would miss out if they at least don’t give her some sort of shot. An immediate win out of the gates may not be the way to earn the respect of fans, but it certainly would give her a ton of heat and maintain some of the heat that she already has. They’ve already proven that Charlotte Flair could become champion at any given moment, so could we see a Blanchard vs. Flair match at Mania? I think it is possible.

The First Back-to-Back Women’s Rumble Winner

Speaking of Charlotte Flair. She made her in-ring return just before the calendar changed and is back and better than ever. Flair currently has the 4th highest odds to win the match at +500 and it is certainly possible for her to repeat as the winner. At this point in her career though, another Rumble win doesn’t solidify anything for her, she is already the most decorated women’s performer in WWE history and another Rumble win would just be more stat padding.

A Possibility From NXT

WWE

WWE

There were 12 women from NXT that competed in last year’s Rumble Match and I think the number could be similar or slightly less in this year’s match. Are there any potential winners from the bunch though? Slim to none. Rhea Ripley has the best shot and the 3rd highest odds. Other than her, Io Shirai currently has +2000 odds and I don’t see that really happening because she is the current NXT Champion. Toni Storm, Ember Moon, Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Tegan Nox, and possibly Raquel Gonzalez are names that will likely be in the match, but I don’t really see any of them having a shot at the moment.

Dark Horse Pick

WWE

WWE

There are honestly a lot of potential winners in this year’s Women’s Rumble. The dark horse pick at the top of my list in the Women’s match however, is Lacey Evans. She is in a current feud with Charlotte Flair and I think she could be poised for a big push coming up. Her odds are currently +2500, but I think she has a decent shot to win. Dark Horse picks are normally gut-feeling picks and my gut is telling me that Lacey Evans could win this Sunday. In her only Rumble appearance, she lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
