AEW Power Rankings: Week of September 25th 2020

We are just three weeks removed from All Out and things are moving right along in AEW. The anniversary show is soon approaching us, but with some positive Covid tests, things may have to be shaken up a little. This week marked the 3/4 mark of 2020 and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the 1/4 unfolds. This week’s show wasn't great, but serviceable. Some moments hit the mark, but I feel like the majority of the show didn’t and that is rare. A couple titles were on the line and there were a few other notable things from Wednesday night. Here are the rankings for the week.

5: Miro and Kip Sabian

Miro and Kip Sabian kicked the show off and some thought it was a fine match and a fine debut for Miro, but I feel like the majority of fans didn’t like his debut. It was a big moment considering it was his first AEW match, but I thought it kinda fell flat. I think Miro could’ve faced a jobber and had a minute squash, but what we got was a weird tag match that nobody was particularly invested in. Miro was clearly the star of the match, but it was basically a dud of a match.

4: Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa

The champs came away with a decisive win on Wednesday and I feel like that was the only way to do it. I have been a fan of Thunder Rosa ever since she made her debut in AEW and it looks like we could be seeing more of her in the near future. Shida and Rosa defeated Ivelisse and Diamante on Dynamite this week and I personally thought it was one of the most interesting matches of the night.

3: Brodie Lee

The TNT Championship was on the line and The Dark Order leader had a successful title defense against Orange Cassidy. It was a good match that became somewhat overshadowed in the end and that is basically the only reason why he isn’t a spot higher. Only time will tell how long Brodie Lee will hold the belt, but someone may be looking to regain it.

2: Cody

He’s Back! Cody appears to be ditching the American Nightmare gimmick for the time being and looks to be showing his darker side. He came out after the TNT Championship match and rushed to attack the remaining members of Dark Order. HIs hiatus honestly didn’t last as long as I expected, but it is good to see him back on TV.

1: Jon Moxley

After it was announced that there were some positive Covid tests within the locker room, the original 6-Man Tag Team Match main event was scrubbed and things were shaken up. Instead we saw a match with the AEW Championship on the line. Moxley took down Eddie Kingston this week and the match itself wasn’t awesome, but I mark this down only because it was a sudden thing and nobody expected Moxley to drop the title. This is clearly nobody’s fault, but the circumstance itself. Once Lance Archer is healthy, we should see he and the AEW Champion square off.
