Situated 50 feet off S. Main Street (U.S. 21) in the small town of Troutman, North Carolina is Burritos & Ribs Mexican Grill.  Even though it sits so close to the highway, if you’re not looking it’s easy to miss.  I can’t say exactly when it first opened, but I’m guessing maybe around a year ago.  Even though I am a big fan of Mexican food, I hadn’t tried it out until recently.  Now I’ve had it twice and it’s so awesome I figured I would write a review about it.

A lot of our readers reside in or around the Charlotte area, so they are aware where the small town of Troutman is.  It is about a 35 minute drive to Charlotte and 15 minutes to Mooresville.

Although I’ve eaten here twice, both times I have ordered it over the phone and went to pick it up for take-out.  The building is really small and would sit around 20 people inside, but there are a few tables to dine at outside on the patio.  In the spring/summer/fall months, that is a really nice spot to enjoy your meal.  There is a big screen tv inside to watch while you eat, but most people are with family members and would rather eat around a conversation.

The Service

Both times I have eaten at Burritos & Ribs the service has been great.  Since I’ve only ordered my food to-go, I haven’t had as much experience with the service as I otherwise would have if I had dined in.  But nonetheless, I can say for certain that if I did, the dine-in service would be tremendous.  The two times I have picked up my food to go, the employees are extremely nice and helpful.  One reason people like going to small-town restaurants instead of the big-name ones is because the quality of service.  You genuinely feel welcomed at small-town restaurants and the employees always do everything they can to ensure you come back.  That’s exactly how it is at Burritos & Ribs.

The Food

Now, let’s get to the fun part: the food.  Although I haven’t tried it, there is a breakfast menu equipped with ten options, all of them including either fried or scrambled eggs.  For lunch or dinner, there are appetizers that includes your choice of meat, along with nacho chips, queso, and beans, with three different types of dip.

The “Favorites” menu includes International Costillas (pork ribs), Fajitas, Burrito Campechano, Milanesa (breaded and fried chicken or steak), Pollo Suprema, and a soup of the day.  The second time I ate here, I ordered the Pollo Suprema, which I can say is very good.  It is grilled chicken topped with bacon and cheese, served with rice, beans, and tortillas.  I mixed my rice and beans in with everything else and the taste was absolutely delicious.

The “Entrée” section of the menu includes 12 different options, each of which can be ordered with your choice of meat (grilled chicken, grilled steak, ground beef, carved pork, pulled pork, or pulled ribs).  These 12 entrée selections are tacos, burritos, enchiladas, flautas, hauraches, quesadillas, chilaquiles, 2 sopes, chimichangas, gorditas, tortas, and ensaladas (salad).  You can get the entrée topped however you want with red or green sauce, sour cream, onions, cheese sauce, and more.  My first time eating here I ordered the Pollo Asado chimichanga, which is a deep fried burrito with grilled chicken in it, topped with cheese sauce.  It was so good that right away I knew I had to eat there again very soon.

Each order of food comes with a bag of fresh, homemade tortilla chips.  These are a real nice addition to eat along with your meal, especially using one of the sauces or cheese to dip them in.  There is also a kid’s menu that includes tacos, burritos, and chicken fingers.  You can order sides to go along with your meal such as rice & beans, French fries, side salad, and chiles toreados.  But in both of my experiences, they give you so much food with your order that I couldn’t imagine having to order a side to go with it.  This is one place that makes sure you won’t leave the table hungry.

If you want a little something sweet to finish your meal off, then order a churro or two.  I had never tried one until my last visit, so I ordered two.  Topped with chocolate syrup, these sweet deserts are perfect for an after-meal desert when you don’t have much room left for anything else.  They are light, and very good.

Final Words

As soon as I ate there the first time, I knew it was going to be one of my favorite restaurants.  I didn’t mind paying around $10 for my food when it was so good…and such a large amount.  The people at Burritos & Ribs make sure you get your money’s worth and that your stomach is full when you’re done eating.  Like I said in the beginning, I love Mexican food and this authentic Mexican restaurant is as good as I’ve ever eaten.  If you live in or around the Charlotte region, it’s definitely worth your time and money to eat at this restaurant.  One thing is for sure, it will be a staple of my go-to restaurants.
