WWE Power Rankings: Week of August 23rd 2020

I apologize for the Power Rankings being, so late, but here they are. It was a big week for the WWE. There were 2 PPV events and they were both great. I personally give the edge to SummerSlam, but to each their own. Both shows were good and we got the chance to see some titles change hands this weekend and that’s always cool to see. It was tough to rank the Top 10 this week, but here goes.

10: Mandy Rose

Rose makes her way to the Top 10 this week due to her big PPV win. She and Sonya didn’t put on the best match of the week, but it culminated a long feud and I’m interested to see what happens next for her.

9: Damian Priest

WWE

WWE

Priest claimed his first title in his WWE run by winning the Ladder Match for the North American Championship at TakeOver XXX. The match was great, and I think that Priest was the best one to win the belt. I think he’ll put together a nice run with the title.

8: Bayley

WWE

WWE

Bayley successfully retained her title at SummerSlam and she adds on to an already historic reign. I thought she was going to be the one to lose her belt, but it looks like she is going to get more time with it. She has really put together a nice run. Interested to see what is next.

7: Seth Rollins

WWE

WWE

Rollins picked up a momentous win this weekend at SummerSlam defeating Dominik Mysterio in a street fight. Rollins is proving that you don’t need a title to remain relevant and I’m not exactly sure if the feud is coming to a close, but it doesn’t appear that way.

6: Adam Cole/Pat McAfee

WWE

WWE

I usually don’t give the loser credit for a Ranking spot, but I feel like I had to this week. Pat McAfee was very impressive in his WWE debut match, but Adam Cole ended up winning. I was surprised to see how ell he performed. I knew that he could hang with him athletically, but I wasn’t so sure about them having a standard singles match. it was a great match and it was the match I personally liked the most form TakeOver XXX. I would like to see more from the former Punter.

5: Io Shirai

WWE

WWE

The NXT Women’s Champion successfully retained her title against Dakota Kai this weekend and it wasn’t a surprise, but it was a great win. I haven’t seen Shirai in a bad match yet and that is saying something. Although I selfishly want to see her on RAW or SmackDown, NXT is the best place for her at the moment. She still has a lot a great potential matchups in the black and yellow brand.

4: Bray Wyatt

WWE

WWE

Wyatt won the main event of SummerSlam by claiming his 2nd Universal Championship reign. He defeated Braun Strowman in a brutal Falls Count Anywhere match. I don’t have him higher only for one reason. Roman Reigns sort of stole the spotlight from him. A lot of people seemingly forgot that Wyatt actually won the title, because Roman’s return overshadowed the title changing hands. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next. I’m glad that The Fiend won the belt and I’m glad to see Roman Reigns back in action.

3: Karrion Kross

WWE

WWE

Kross claimed gold for the first time in WWE this weekend by defeating Keith Lee for the NXT Championship, but now the title is vacant. Kross had to relinquish the belt last night due to injury and Keith Lee is now a member of RAW. I hate to see something like this happen to a competitor that a lot of the fans are behind, even as a heel, and someone with as much potential as Kross. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit though to see him become an unannounced entry in the Royal Rumble in January. I think Kross is destined for big things in the WWE. The next NXT Champion will be decided next week in a special Tuesday night event.

2: Asuka

WWE

WWE

Asuka had 2 PPV matches at SummerSlam and although she lost her first match, she made the second one count and won the RAW Women’s Championship from Sasha Banks. It is her 2nd RAW Women’s title reign and I think Asuka is the right woman for the belt. Asuka is such a great performer and she put on great matches with Bayley and Sasha this weekend. Hopefully she gets a lengthy reign coming up, but I guess we’ll see. All of the women did great this weekend at SummerSlam

1: Drew McIntyre

WWE

WWE

Drew McIntyre is the face of the WWE and if that wasn’t clear enough by Sunday, you sure knew it after Sunday night. Roman Reigns may be the only exception, but McIntyre has the belt so he gets the glory, for now. McIntyre and Orton put on a great match and I personally thought it was the best match of the weekend. I don’t feel like McIntyre is becoming boring to any fans and I personally wouldn’t mind seeing him stay champion until WrestleMania, but I realize that may be a stretch even for someone with the momentum that McIntyre has.
