13. Toronto Blue Jays

12. St. Louis Cardinals

11. Houston Astros

10. Chicago Cubs

The Cubs got off to a hot start and surprised a lot of people in David Ross’s first year at the helm, but have faltered off a bit here of late.  They still lead the Central by three games over rival Cardinals, who have a lot of making up games to do.  The Cubs will be very interesting to watch over the course of September.

9. Atlanta Braves

The Braves are having another strong year, as was expected.  Max Fried has been dealing, but losing Mike Soroka for the year really hurts, especially come playoff time.  Still, they have a lot of young talent who is ready to win now.

8. San Diego Padres

Fernando Tatis Jr…geez.  That guy is doing some special things so far this year and their killer farm system from the last several years is finally making some noise like we all knew they would.

7. Chicago White Sox

Another team that has had a great farm system the last several years, and we are seeing the benefits of it this year.  The White Sox will be around for a while, so get used to seeing them relevant.

6. Cleveland Indians

The Indians have gotten the best of the White Sox this year, thus being placed a spot ahead of them.  This team doesn’t score the amount of runs they should, but their pitching and defense has been really good, only giving up 84 runs on the season.  That’s the second most in the majors behind the Cardinals who have only given up 57…and have played about three games this season.

5. New York Yankees

I predicted the Yankees to finish behind the Rays in the AL East, and as of right now that’s the case.  Their offense is very powerful, but they’re still waiting on a few bats to wake up.  We’ll have to wait and see if that will happen or not.  But their pitching/defense has been doing a solid job this season, giving up one of the lowest run-totals in the league.

4. Oakland Athletics

The A’s just quietly do their thing every single year it seems like.  They’re up on the Astros by 3.5 games in the AL West and look really good.  And once again, they have good pitching, which is always key.

3. Tampa Bay Rays

Like the Athletics, the Rays always fly under the radar.  How cool would it be to see a team like the Rays or A’s win the World Series.  The Rays always get it done on defense, but this year their offense has exploded, having scored 153 runs on the season, good for over 5 runs/game.

2. Minnesota Twins

Their offense is good.  Their pitching is good.  Their team is good.  We knew this would be the case going into the season.  They are a big threat to take home the hardware this fall.

1. Los Angeles Dodgers

It seems like they are always in the top spot in my power rankings.  But can they win the whole thing?  They’ve proved time and time again that they can’t, but maybe this year will be different.  By far, and I mean BY FAR, they have the best run differential in the majors.  Theirs is at +73 while the Twins is the next best at +39.  We all know they are dominant.  Now we sit back and see how dominant they will be in October.
