The Horror Show at Extreme Rules Predictions (2020)

WWE

WWE

Extreme Rules is finally here and personally, I’m really excited to see the show. There are a lot of interesting matches on the card and some have some really interesting themes and stipulations. The logo and colors are new for Extreme Rules and I personally like the change. One thing that is glaring to me is the fact that this Extreme Rules PPV doesn’t have a single Extreme Rules match on the card. It seems a little weird to me and I guess we could see one match possibly getting the stipulation, but is seems odd. At the moment, there are only 7 matches on the card and we could see one more added for the kickoff match, but Backlash only had 7 matches, so I guess we’ll see as it gets closer to show time. I was thinking about doing a predictions video for this PPV, but I wasn’t really prepared for it yet, so keep your eyes open for video content in the near future. With all of that being said, here are my predictions for the show.

*Match Card is likely not in exact order

*Predicted winners are bolded

-       Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship

Apollo Crews (C) vs. MVP

WWE

WWE

The United States Championship will see its first title defense with the new look belt and if I have to pick one of the following matches to be on the kickoff show, it would be this one. I think the match will be interesting, but I think we see a successful title defense from Apollo Crews. Odds from BetOnline currently have Apollo Crews as a -450 favorite and I don’t think that will change.

-       Men’s Tables Tag Team Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship

The New Day (C) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro

WWE

WWE

If you look at the SmackDown Tag Team Championship history the average title reign only lasts 70 days, so my estimation is that we’re due for a title change. Would I be shocked either way? Not really, but I think the fact that this is a tables match could be a great indicator that anything could happen. The New Day walks into Extreme Rules with an 89-day reign and they’re currently the favorite at -140. I’ll take my chances with the slight underdogs, but don’t be shocked with a successful title defense.

-       Women’s Singles Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship

Bayley (C) vs. Nikki Cross

WWE

WWE

I like to point out the fact that I predicted a championship win in 2020 for Nikki Cross, but now that we’re at the point where she is getting an opportunity, I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Whether you agree or not, Bayley has become synonymous with the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She has been the most dominant woman in WWE in 2020 despite what people may think. I think her dominance continues tonight. There are only a chosen few that can take the belt from her at this point. Bayley is a currently a -600 favorite and will walk into Extreme Rules with a reign of 282 days.

-       Eye for an Eye Match

Seth Rollins vs. Rey Mysterio

WWE

WWE

To my knowledge, the WWE has never had an eye for an eye match. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. My expectations of this match is that I obviously expect it to be more on the entertainment side rather than a match. This could either be the crappiest thing we have ever seen or something that could be really cool. I really don’t think that there is an in-between. Seth Rollins is the favorite at -300, but I really don’t have a clue which way this will go. Rey Mysterio is rumored to be working without a contract, so this could be his way out. We’ll see though.

-       Wyatt Swamp Fight

Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt

WWE

WWE

This is probably the match that I’m most interested to watch tonight. I hate that the title isn’t on the line, but I think that this will just be a way to keep Wyatt in the title picture heading into SummerSlam, thus the reason why I think he wins. Before today, I thought that it was for the championship, but it isn’t. On WWE 2K20, there is a Wyatt Compound Arena on the game and we could see something similar to that setting tonight. Wyatt is a -200 favorite and I think that he takes the win tonight and The Fiend and Strowman have a big showdown at SummerSlam.

-       Women’s Singles Match: RAW Women’s Championship

Asuka (C) vs. Sasha Banks

WWE

WWE

I think that this match could’ve been the main event, but without a special stipulation, I don’t think that will be the case. I wish this match was an Extreme Rules match, because I think these ladies could tear the house down with no rules. I still think it will be an awesome match, but it would’ve been better. I have gone back and forth with my decision many times in this match since it was announced, but I’m going with a successful title defense. Asuka is the favorite at -320, which is actually better odds than I was expecting. It wouldn’t shock me to see Sasha win the belt, but on RAW Talk this week, Kairi Sane and Asuka were both on the show and Sane mentioned that she would love to face Asuka for the championship if she retains. A few months ago, Kairi Sane got married and her husband is currently in Japan. There are reports that she will be on her way out when her contract expires and that makes perfect sense. I think we will get a wonderful match between she and the RAW Women’s Champion, Asuka, at SummerSlam, in what will likely be a heartfelt goodbye to the WWE.

-       TBD Men’s Singles Match: WWE Championship

Drew McIntyre (C) vs. Dolph Ziggler

WWE

WWE

This may not be the main event, but I think it will definitely be considered one of the best match of the night when all is said and done. Ziggler is getting to choose the match stipulation for the night and it does add a little bit of intrigue to the match. He hasn’t announced the match type yet, but we will obviously find out tonight. Regardless of what happens, I cannot think of one reason why Dolph Ziggler would win tonight. I’m not saying he has no chance, but I think it is the closest thing to no chance as you can get. McIntyre is an astounding -2000 favorite tonight and that is the highest odds-on favorite that I have seen in a long time. Some are saying it will be a TLC match, due to a possible advertising error on WWE’s part, but I guess we’ll see. Regardless of all that, I think McIntyre is the safest bet of the night.
