AEW Power Rankings: Week of May 16th 2020

There’s only one more week until the big payoffs at Double or Nothing and I’m excited to see it all unfold. NXT and AEW ratings are down collectively due to the pandemic a presume, but AEW seems to have the advantage every week. The Double or Nothing cards appears to be almost a full card, but I’m wondering where a couple of wrestlers will be featured, or if they will be featured. Next week will be more telling, but for now, here are my rankings for this week.

-       5: Hikaru Shida

Shida won 4-Way match to decide the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship on Wednesday. She fended off Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, and Penelope Ford to secure the win and she will face The Native Beast next Saturday at Double or Nothing. It should’ve been a bigger moment, but I thought it was too much action honestly. It was good to see Penelope Ford get some shine though, we haven’t seen her a lot in the ring.

-       4: MJF

MJF returned to the ring this week and defeated Lee Johnson rather quickly. He will face Jungle Boy at Double or Nothing and while it should be a great match, I think MJF will again reap the benefits with a win next Saturday.

-       3: Kenny Omega and Matt Hardy

I wish I could’ve put them in last week’s rankings, but this week they picked up a win against Santana and Ortiz. They all of the competitors involved here will be involved in the Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing. I don’t have a clue about what to expect in that match, but I know it should be an entertaining bout.

-       2: Chris Jericho

Although Jericho picked up a squash win over Pineapple Pete aka Suge D, it was a much need win. Although it was just last week he was in a match, it doesn’t feel like he has been in action a lot in a while. Also, RIP to Vanguard.

-       1: Brodie Lee

AEW

AEW

While it probably wasn’t the best match of the night, it was the most meaningful segment of the night and it earned Brodie Lee the number one spot this week. Moxley sold most of the segment, but Lee reaped the benefits. He defeated Christopher Daniels in the main event Wednesday night and Moxley looked for vengeance. It was a great segment to end the show and the match should be great at Double or Nothing.
