WrestleMania 36 Part 2 Results and Reaction

Night One was a decent showing under the circumstances, but Night Two was great in my opinion. I legitimately can’t point to one match and say it was bad. That is a great thing considering there was no crowd. Wrestling critics and insiders like Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez were not keen on the event. While I realize it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I advise you to watch for yourself and make your own judgement of the event. This is what this is all about, right? After the Boneyard Match stole the show on the first night, I was interested to see the Firefly match for one, but there were many matches on this card I wanted to see. Also, I wanted to mention the fact that the Boneyard Match might have been The Undertaker’s last match. A documentary aired after Sunday night’s part and it was titled Undertaker: The Last Ride. He also posted a photo on Instagram leading to that suspicion. We’ll see if that is the case, but he went out on top, that’s for sure. And now, here’s the breakdown of last night’s events.

-       Women’s Singles Match

Liv Morgan over Natalya

WWE

WWE

This was nothing more than a starter match in the kickoff show and it was fine. It was good seeing Liv Morgan get a win against a talented veteran. I had a feeling that they were going to have a match involving the Riott Squad, but I guess they went another route. With Money in the Bank coming up, I could see her having decent odds to win the briefcase.

-       Women’s Singles Match: NXT Women’s Championship           *MATCH OF THE NIGHT*

Charlotte Flair over Rhea Ripley (C)

WWE

WWE

While there may have been more entertaining segments on the card, this had the best in-ring action by far. It was incredible to see the performance that these ladies put on in the show’s opener. Flair winning the belt seemed like a sure thing going into the match just because of how many possibilities they create in NXT. Rhea Ripley is one of my favorite performers at the moment and in just a couple years, I could see her being the face of the women’s division in the WWE. The match went of 20 minutes, but it had a nice flow and I’m ready for the rematch, if we get it.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Aleister Black over Bobby Lashley (with Lana)

WWE

WWE

This match was nothing special, but it certainly gave Aleister Black a much-needed momentum swing. Hopefully this win can propel Black into the title picture, because I think he is ready for it. Same goes for Lashley. He has seemingly been on the backburner ever since returning to the WWE and I hope he can get better opportunities moving forward.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Otis over Dolph Ziggler (with Sonya Deville)

WWE

WWE

This was some good old-fashioned storytelling. The super likeable guy getting his dream girl and defeating the bad guy to help win her over. I, for one, really enjoyed this storyline because it was basic and it is helping the careers of all involved. I think Otis has a future as a singles wrestler if they want to go that route and Tucker definitely has that capability as well. I’m also interested to see a feud between Mandy and Sonya coming up. Everything about this was done the right way.

-       Last Man Standing Match

Edge over Randy Orton

WWE

WWE

This was a great performance, but I want to address something that a lot of viewers were complaining about and that involves the length of the match. Sure, it was a long bout, but I’d like to think of this as a portrayal of Edge’s road back to wrestling. It was a long and grueling process, but after 9 long years, and a ton of heartache, he showed Randy Orton that all of that pent-up aggression could not be contained. Maybe that is just me buying into the story, but that is the point. I didn’t go into this match thinking that this was going to be an in-ring flurry of action. I knew it was going to be a grueling, aggressive, knock-down, drag-out fight. We got that and then some. Great match and better still, it is great to have Edge back, hopefully for a little while longer.

-       Men’s Tag Team Match: RAW Tag Team Championship

The Street Profits (C) over Angel Garza and Austin Theory (with Zelina Vega)

WWE

WWE

These guys were put in a bad spot on the card, but it wasn’t their fault. I didn’t have a ton of expectation in this match, but it seems like they barely got started. With that being said, it was fine for what it was. While the argument could be made that none of the matches on the card had a big match feel, this one wasn’t an exception to that.

-       Women’s Fatal 5-Way Elimination Match: SmackDown Women’s Championship

Bayley (C) over Lacey Evans, Sasha Banks, Naomi, and Tamina

WWE

WWE

This match took a little while to get started, but once it did, it was good. I predicted Bayley to win, but I really wanted to see Lacey Evans get the title. I’m a big fan of Lacey Evans and she just keeps getting better, but I know her time will come. I can say that I didn’t expect to see Sasha Banks walking out on the good side of Bayley. I thought there would be a turn, but I think it is still bound to happen sooner rather than later.

-       Firefly Funhouse Match

“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt over John Cena

WWE

WWE

We were treated to another cinematic style match here and it was just as entertaining as the Boneyard Match. I didn’t know what to expect, but I wasn’t disappointed. John Cena is one of the main reasons that I am a wrestling fan to this day and it was cool to revisit the big moments of his career in a humorous fashion. I don’t really consider this a match, so I’m not going to give this Match of the Night, but it was pretty cool. I think this is just a segment that you have to watch, because I can’t really do it justice describing it. It was a unique spectacle to say the least.

-       Men’s Singles Match: WWE Championship

Drew McIntyre over Brock Lesnar (C) (with Paul Heyman)

WWE

WWE

Drew McIntyre finally got his moment. It was awesome to see him win the title last night, but very unfortunate that he didn’t get to have a crowd reacting to it. This was similar to the Goldberg and Strowman match the night before, but I was done a lot better. It had a better flow and I think that is a credit to the performers in the match. I’m interested to see what is next on the agenda for McIntyre and Lesnar after this big match, but I’m going to grade this based on the significance that it should’ve been rather than it actually was.
