Who Will Get More Wins This Season: Tom Brady’s Bucs or the Patriots?

I never would have imagined asking this question two months ago…but who will get more wins this upcoming NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the New England Patriots?  I very much want to re-visit this question in the near future after the NFL draft and next year’s schedules are released because those two things will have a heavy impact on this question.  The Patriots will draft a quarterback to replace Tom Brady and perhaps some weapons to boost an offense that desperately needs boosting.  And schedules obviously have a big impact on win/loss numbers.

But the reason I’m bringing this question up now is because Caesars Sportsbook in Las Vegas released win totals and playoff odds for every NFL team this past Thursday.  It had the Patriots win total at 8.5, which happens to be the lowest set total since 2003.  Now let’s move onto Tampa Bay.  Tom Brady’s new team has a win total set at nine games by Caesars Sportsbook.  When I first saw these win total lines set for both teams, it instantly caught my attention because it’s actually a very good question of which team will get more wins this upcoming season.

Do we have more faith in Bill Belichick and his genius coaching mind or Tom Brady and his unmatched quarterbacking resume?  Belichick will without a doubt face a huge challenge this year in proving that he can win without his Hall of Fame quarterback.  But more than that, he will face a huge challenge to win with a very sub-par offense.  Tom Brady on the other hand will have more weapons than he is used to.  Brady to Mike Evans or Chris Godwin will be something we will hear a lot of this year.  But he won’t have the coaching mind of Belichick behind him for the first time in his career.  So, will Belichick or Brady prove this year that they were the bigger factor on all of those Super Bowl teams?  We may not necessarily find the answer to that question this year, but it will be the question on everyone’s minds as they compare the success from week to week between the Buccaneers and the Patriots.

Like I mentioned, I want to re-visit the question of which team will get more wins this season in a month or so, but for right now I am predicting the Buccaneers.  They were 7-9 this past year, so it wasn’t like they were an awful team to begin with.  They have talent.  Now bringing in Brady should at least get them three more wins.  The Patriots on the other hand are seriously lacking talent on the offensive side of the ball.  We seen that last year.  With Tom Brady not there to make up for that lack of talent like he has been doing, I just don’t see the Patriots getting 10 wins this year.  It helps they play in a terrible division, but I’m thinking eight or nine wins sounds realistic, which makes that 8.5 win total from Caesars an excellent line right now.  New England went 12-4 last year, so I just don’t see Brian Hoyer or a rookie stepping in and the team only falling off two games from last year.  We will see, though.  Let me know what you think in the comments.
