Drink Review: SKI Citrus Soda

While walking down the aisle of my local grocery store, an odd 4-pack caught my eye…it was SKI Soda!! It appeared to be a citrus soda (which I love) and I for one had never seen this particular bottle. Now that NASCAR is gone and all other sports for now…I thought…why the heck not…I’ll do a drink review! I feel that the most important things in buying a soft drink are appearance and taste, so why not take a stab at this…but first let me give you a little history spiel.

SKI Citrus Soda was created in 1956 by The Double Cola Company in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It’s ingredients consist of real orange and lemon juice, which gives it the citrus flavor. Apparently their name was inspired by an employees water skiing trip on the Chickamauga Lake in Tennessee.

What caught my eye was the nostalgic design of the package itself. It had a vintage vibe and the words SKI went up a slope of green and blue colors. The white color accented well with the green bottles inside. In terms of this, I have to give it a solid 10/10 on the carrying pack, great job Double Cola!

SKI did a nice job with the bottle cap too. It definitely has the vintage and nostalgic factor that you would look for in a glass bottle soft drink. This is the kind of cap you would want to save and collect. I have got respect for the regional soda game…10/10 SKI…good job!

The bottle looks great as well, not too much flair, just enough to make you think of watching Semi-Pro and enjoying the sweet flavor that SKI brings…that reminds me, I bet you are wondering how it tastes! Okay all you Mountain Dew, Sun Drop and Mello Yello lovers…the moment you have all been waiting for.

Lemon…that’s the first thing that comes to my mind…and a lot of it. It has a stout lemony taste. The pure cane sugar is prevalent and can be spotted immediately by your taste buds. There are only like 10 ingredients in it too, which is probably a good thing. It is not heavily carbonated which I like. It is more of a tart drink than sweet. I would say it resembles Sun Drop more than Mountain Dew, but is unique in its own way…maybe a little 7up or Sprite mixed with Sun Drop and this is what you get.

It tastes like the 60’s for sure. In total, I would give SKI Soda an 8/10 in taste. If you love citrus soda, give it a shot for sure. This soft drink definitely says Americana and it tastes like something you would buy at a rural, small-town general store. Go out and buy this “local/regional” soda and support American business! (I got mine at Ingles) Now you have it…SKI Soda is Sports Chief approved! Cheers everyone!
