Elimination Chamber 2020 Results and Reaction

There weren’t big expectations heading into this show, but overall it wasn’t a great show. It was fine, but not great. The first hour was very good, but after that, everything just went a little bit downhill in each match. You can forgive a lot of it due to the fact that there wasn’t a lot of buildup time for the PPV, but some of it was just questionable. Here is my breakdown of the show and my reaction to each match.

-       Men’s Tag Team Match

The Viking Raiders over Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins

WWE

WWE

There isn’t much to say about this match. It was a decent match in the kickoff show that had no rhyme or reason to it. I guess this is to keep The Viking Raiders relevant, but is it really keeping them relevant if they’re in the kickoff show? I like what The Viking Raiders have to offer and for that matter, Ryder and Hawkins are talented as well, but this was a useless match.

-       Men’s Singles Match

Daniel Bryan over Drew Gulak

WWE

WWE

This started the main portion of the show and this was a match of the night favorite early in the night, but I didn’t go that route. I think I may regret it later on, but it was a wonderful match. Bryan took a nasty bump to the neck on a suplex, but it appears that he is fine. I think more than anything, this was a chance for Drew Gulak to showcase his talent against a formidable opponent. Not only was that a success, but as far as a normal match goes, it was by far the best on the card. I have no complaints about the match and I want to see more of Drew Gulak in bigger situations.

-       Men’s Singles Match: United States Championship

Andrade (C) over Humberto Carrillo

WWE

WWE

This was another wonderful match in a PPV that peaked very early. I thought that Carrillo was going to get the victory, but clearly Andrade was on a mission. If you didn’t think that Andrade was a star in the making prior to this match, all you have to do is watch this match. This also is a credit to Carrillo for selling his moves and making him look as good as possible. My only qualm with the match was the fact that it ended in a roll-up. This feud could go on to WrestleMania and I wouldn’t mind seeing another version of this match, maybe with Angel Garza and Rey Mysterio added to the mix.

-       Men’s Tag Team Elimination Chamber Match: SmackDown Tag Team Championship

The Miz and John Morrison (C) over The Usos, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, Heavy Machinery, The New Day, and Lucha House Party                    *Match of the Night*

WWE

WWE

I consider this match of the night because of the numerous storyline clashes and high intensity of the match. I was expecting this for this Chamber match and I’m glad we got to see a good showing from all involved. I don’t really know anything that would’ve made this contest any better. I think the fact that there were a lot of people in the match at once took a little away from the action, but it wasn’t anything major. I was rooting hard for Heavy Machinery, but I knew there was a good chance that they weren’t going to win. They had a great run in the match and were featured a lot, which was encouraging to see. Miz and Morrison retaining was a good move, because it would’ve been too soon for them to drop the titles. It should be interesting to see what kind of story they can cook up within the next month.

-       Men’s No-Disqualification Match

Aleister Black over AJ Styles (with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows)

WWE

WWE

This match had the potential to be memorable, but what we got instead was a forgettable match that was overshadowed by The Undertaker. Not that that is a bad thing, but I wanted to see Aleister Black pick up a clean win. I think more than anything, the no-DQ stipulation hurt the quality of the match, but without it, Undertaker wouldn’t have appeared and it wouldn’t have gotten the crowd into the moment. The match felt like a good RAW match with a couple tables and kendo sticks thrown into the mix. It was a lengthy match, but for mostly good reasons. Although it should be a meaningful win for Black, I personally don’t think it is because Undertaker had to bail him out. With that being said, I want to see Aleister Black facing Undertaker in his eventual last match. It wasn’t a bad match, but it could’ve been better.

-       Men’s Tag Team Match: RAW Tag Team Championship

The Street Profits (C) over Seth Rollins and Murphy (with AOP)

WWE

WWE

The Street Profits are so freaking entertaining. The crowd wasn’t really into this match, but I thought it was pretty solid and entertaining. It would’ve been bad to see The Street Profits losing the titles just 6 days into their reign, so a successful title defense was the right move. Kevin Owens making an appearance to distract Rollins was a nice touch and clearly, they’ll be facing each other in some shape or form at WrestleMania, but The Street Profits didn’t need to have a distraction to win. They’re talented enough and over enough to capture a clean win against any tag team. I hope they get to be featured in an interesting match at WrestleMania.

-       Men’s 1-on-3 Handicap Match: Intercontinental Championship

Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Cesaro over Braun Strowman (C)

WWE

WWE

Out of all of the titles that were on the line last night, this one was definitely last on my list of ones that I thought would change hands. So, Sami Zayn is the new IC Champ in a weird and somewhat mess of a match. The match was not very good and that isn’t because I didn’t like the outcome, because in most cases, I don’t care what happens. It just has to make sense, but this didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Strowman losing the singles title to a trio of guys is stupid and I will never not think that it is stupid. Having 3 guys team up to win a singles title is terrible booking and not only that, it diminishes what little value the belt had. Hopefully something will be solved in time for WrestleMania, but this was not good.

-       Women’s Elimination Chamber Match

Shayna Baszler over Asuka, Liv Morgan, Natalya, Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan

WWE

WWE

I totally understand why they booked the match the way that they did, but then again, it was the wrong approach to do so, in my opinion. Having Baszler eliminate all competitors in the match was fine, but the fact that only two of them are worthy opponents at this point in time doesn’t do much for me. They had a great chance to elevate some of these underutilized women in the match, but clearly that wasn’t on their mind. Asuka only put up a fight for about 30 seconds and then Baszler dominated the rest of the match. I get that they have to have a strong opponent to have a chance to take down Becky Lynch, but come on. They haven’t had Baszler featured nearly enough on RAW to do so. The Survivor Series Triple Threat wasn’t a good showing by Baszler, in my opinion, and the whole neck biting segment was a travesty in itself. Baszler’s appearances on RAW have been totally underwhelming and if things don’t change within the next month and she takes the title from Lynch at WrestleMania, it will be upsetting to say the least. Baszler is a good competitor, but personally, I don’t see the hype.  Clearly the crowd wasn’t loving it either.
