In this series I highlight three things to do for the people in the Charlotte, NC area and anyone who may be visiting our awesome city this weekend.  Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in America with plenty to offer everyone.  So, let’s take a look at three things you can do this weekend (Friday, March 6th through Sunday, March 8th):

1. Charlotte Checkers Hockey Games (Friday and Saturday)

Your Charlotte Checkers begin a 6-game homestand this weekend with games on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (6 p.m.) against the Utica Comets from New York.  If you can’t wait to go to the beach this summer, Friday night will be “Beach Night” and you will get a free pair of aviator sunglasses if you are among the first 1,000 fans to enter.  Saturday night will be “Miracle on Ice” night to celebrate the 40th anniversary of America’s biggest sports win.  The team will wear special jerseys to commemorate it and you will be able to buy special “Miracle on Ice” merchandise.  The team needs your support as they try to chase down three teams ahead of them in the Atlantic Division.  Both games will take place at Bojangles Coliseum.

2. Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival (Saturday)

Come gather at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. to partake in the 14th annual Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival.  You can enjoy more than 40 bourbons and 60 beers on tap, as well as delicious barbecue including pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken, sausages, plus any fixin’ you want.  In addition to the food and drinks, people will be able to play games such as ping pong and giant Jenga.  This is a great way to spend a Saturday on what is supposed to be a beautiful day.  Remember this event is only open to adults aged 21 and older.  General admission tickets costs $39 apiece and includes a souvenir tasting glass for unlimited drink sampling.

3. St. Patrick’s Day Parade (Saturday)

St. Patrick’s Day is still over a week away, but come celebrate early in downtown Mooresville at its annual parade.  Taking place along N Main St. from 3 to 4 p.m., there will be Irish pipe bands, Connick School of Irish Dance, green cars, tumblers, and much more (according to its Facebook page).  It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend, so bring your chairs, wear your green attire, and enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day celebration.  It’s a great family event, plus, it’s completely free!
