WWE Best Entrances Tournament: Round 1 Results

With March here and no March Madness basketball tournament this year, we decided to hold a March Madness tournament of our own.  We went through the years and seeded all WWE wrestlers whose ring entrances were good enough to be included.  Then we held Round 1 of the tournament on Saturday and Sunday on Twitter with our followers voting on who had the better entrances.  The final votes were tallied yesterday and all results are in for the first round.  Here’s how things turned out:

Upsets

We’ll talk about upsets first because everyone loves a good upset in March Madness.  Out of 32 matchups, there were only five upsets, and a couple of them were 9 seeds over 8 seeds.  This tells us we did a pretty good job of seeding.  The biggest upset in Round 1 was #11 Ricky Steamboat over #6 Daniel Bryan, with Steamboat getting 57% of the vote.  #9 Razor Ramon edged out #8 Bret Hart, winning with 58% of the vote.  Somewhat surprising was #10 John Cena (Dr. of Thuganomics) cruising to a victory over #7 Brock Lesnar, getting a total of 85% of the vote.  But John Cena is a huge personality, so then again I completely get it.  #9 Booker T took down his former rival #8 JBL, which is not surprising at all.  People love Booker T and hate JBL.  And our last upset was #10 Jeff Hardy over #7 Shane McMahon.  Entrance-wise, Shane has the better one.  But Jeff Hardy is one of those guys that everyone loves.

Close Matchups

#7 CM Punk very narrowly outlasted old-timer #10 Dusty Rhodes, 53% to 47%.  I thought that match spoke a lot about Dusty Rhodes and the respect for him.  As already mentioned, Ricky Steamboat barely beat Daniel Bryan, another fan favorite.  Just like the CM Punk-Dusty Rhodes match, #7 Vince McMahon beat #10 Hacksaw Jim Duggan 53% to 47%.  #6 Roddy Piper barely beat #11 Roman Reigns, gathering 56% of the vote.  That was an interesting match that could’ve went either way, and with the way people love Roman, spoke a lot about Roddy Piper and his entrance.

Strong Showings

Obviously the #1 seeds had very strong showings, as they faced off against #16 seeds.  #1 Stone Cold, #1 Undertaker (Dead Man), #4 Chris Jericho, #3 Eddie Guerrero, #2 Shawn Michaels, #1 Triple H, #3 Edge, and #4 Undertaker (Biker Taker) all received at least 86% of the vote, with Triple H receiving the perfect 100%.
