AEW Power Rankings: Week of March 19th 2020

While most programs on TV aren’t live, WWE and AEW are still going strong with live shows. This episode of Dynamite was a game-changing one in more ways than one. We saw 2 new additions to AEW and the audience-less crowd had a little more energy, only because they listened to fans about having personnel in the crowd. They outscored NXT by a large margin this week, but this was mainly due to the fact that NXT had interviews and promos taking a large part of the show. AEW is on an absolute roll and they don’t need fans in the crowd to put on an excellent show. I just would’ve liked to have seen crowd pops for the two new additions. Here are my rankings for the week.

-       5: Jurassic Express

Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus picked up a big win against The Butcher and The Blade last night. In 2019, they took a lot of losses, but 2020 has been a decent year for the team. I think this is one match that would’ve benefitted from a live crowd, but nevertheless, it was still a good match. We’ll see if this win leads to other big things, but for now, big win for the dinosaurs.

-       4: Death Triangle

I don’t know if there is a team with more momentum in wrestling. Pac and the Lucha Bros are a great combination of high flying and hard hitting and it is great to see every week. They defeated Best Friends this week, but some would argue that Best Friends stole the segment. That is usually the case when Orange Cassidy is on the screen in any capacity, but I digress. I could see Lucha Bros taking the titles off of Omega and Page when the time comes.

-       3: The Inner Circle

The Inner Circle picked up the win in the main event of Dynamite against The Elite. It was Santana, Ortiz, and Jake Hager in action vs. Hangman Page, Cody, and Matt Jackson. Jericho on commentary, Sammy Guevara singing “Judas”, and great in-ring action are a mix for good TV. When Jericho leaves, I am really going to miss him. The success of AEW has been a team effort, but Jericho played a huge part and continues to play a huge part in its success.

-       2: Brodie Lee

Going into the show, The Exalted One was to be announced. Most of the wrestling world thought it was Matt Hardy. AEW clearly played us like a fiddle. There was a small chance that it was Brodie Lee, formerly known as Luke Harper in WWE. We knew that he signed with AEW, but what role he would play was unclear until now. He is The Exalted One of The Dark Order and it will be very interesting to see what will come of this. Brodie Lee will get a big chance to showcase his skills on a big level, rather than be on the backburner for WWE. He is super talented, but one thing I really haven’t heard from him is his speaking ability. I think he is a good speaker based off of the promo last night. I’m excited to see more from him.

-       1: “Broken” Matt Hardy

AEW

Number one this week may be a little biased, but I really don’t think so. Matt Hardy is ALL ELITE!! I’m a big fan of Matt Hardy and his Broken/Woken gimmick and it appears that he will go with this in AEW, at least for now. WWE had nothing left to offer him and AEW can give him the world. He will have a big platform to be creative and help a roster of young talent in the process. A total win-win for all involved here and they couldn’t have closed the show any better than they did last night. I just wish we could’ve gotten a crowd reaction last night. It would’ve been incredible. It’s going to be cool to see Hardy’s character revived and develop in the next few weeks.
