WWE Power Rankings: Week of February 23rd 2020

It’s felt like it’s been a while since I’ve did a WWE Power Rankings article, but here it is this week. This week’s WWE programming was somewhat boring. There were good parts, like every week, but the show didn’t really flow this week in my opinion. I don’t think that is a very good sign going into a PPV for, but there is still one more RAW episode that can help cushion that. I’m not that excited going into Super ShowDown, because of the fact that most people and most of the feuds are gearing towards WrestleMania. I don’t see any big titles changing hands and frankly it just wasn’t as interesting as the last one. I hope they can put on a good show, but I guess we shall find out this Thursday. Here are the Power Rankings for the week.

-       10: Tommaso Ciampa (NR)

WWE

WWE

Johnny Gargano costed Ciampa the NXT Championship at the last TakeOver event and this week Ciampa decided to send Gargano a message. These two have had bitter feuds in the past and it looks like they will tear open old wounds again. Ciampa attacked Austin Theory this week to send a message to Gargano and I think Gargano clearly received it.

-       9: The Usos and The New Day (NR, NR)

WWE

WWE

Two of the best tag teams in the WWE teamed up on SmackDown this week and picked up a victory against Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode, The Miz and John Morrison. There was a little bit of a rift between the teams before the action started, but they put all of their qualms aside for the sake of the match. I could see these teams having a match at WrestleMania and I don’t think anybody would complain about that to be honest. They put on a wonderful match each time they get in the ring.

-       8: Becky Lynch (3)

Becky Lynch delivering a strong promo each week seems like a given, but she lands in the Top 10 yet again. My initial thoughts on the Baszler attack were not good and it is going to take a lot for me to get legitimately interesting in the match at WrestleMania. With that being said though, Lynch is a master of turning a bad situation into gold and she is well on her way to do that with this feud. I think Baszler will ultimately take her title at WrestleMania, but I think Ronda Rousey should be the one to take it from her, if and when she returns.

-       7: Velveteen Dream (NR)

WWE

WWE

Dream made his return to TV after a nearly 5-month hiatus. He defeated Roderick Strong in the main event of NXT on Wednesday night and it was a great showing from both competitors. It hasn’t felt like it has been 5 months since his last appearance, but I can see him being a big-time player moving forward for the brand. In his last appearance, he dropped the North American Championship to Strong on the NXT debut on the USA Network. I think he’ll be challenging for the NXT title within the next couple of months and it wouldn’t surprise me if he claims the gold when the time comes.

-       6: Randy Orton (NR)

WWE

WWE

Matt Hardy’s career in the WWE could be coming to an end thanks in large part to Randy Orton. Hardy’s contract is up at the end of February, but it isn’t official if he is staying or leaving. It was rumored that he could be joining AEW, but nothing is official and I honestly could see him coming back to WWE. Orton has obliterated Hardy for two weeks in a row and I’m anxious to see Orton and Edge at WrestleMania.

-       5: Bobby Lashley and Angel Garza (NR, NR)

WWE

WWE

Coming in a number 5, we have the make-shift team of Bobby Lashley and Angel Garza. They picked up the win against the team of Rusev and Humberto Carrillo and the match was very solid. We got a great chance to see Garza and Carrillo working together and the flow of the match was great. I think most people are tired of seeing the Rusev and Lashley feud, but it looks like it is going to carry on for at least a little while longer.

-       4: Aleister Black (NR)

WWE

WWE

Since starting the new gimmick, Erick Rowan has been in some weird spots and weird circumstances, but he finally got a chance to showcase his skills against a great in-ring performer this week and it paid dividends. It is a shame that Black hasn’t been in a singles title feud since getting bumped up to RAW, but I think we could see that change by the end of the year. They can’t just ignore one of their top talents, can they?

-       3: Naomi (NR)

WWE

WWE

Naomi picking of the number one contender spot for the SmackDown Women’s Championship this week was a big deal, but the match wasn’t awesome. It wasn’t because of the actual in-ring action, it was more about placement than anything. It was in a weird spot on Friday night and it put them in a difficult spot to be as successful as possible. For the first time ever, a women’s title will be defended in Saudi Arabia on Thursday and it is good to see Naomi getting that shot, but I don’t expect her to pick up the win.

-       2: Jordan Devlin (NR)

WWE

WWE

The NXT Cruiserweight Champion successfully retained his title this week on NXT against Lio Rush. Devlin is a special performer and I think we could see him have the title for quite a while. He and Lio Rush are awesome in the ring and each time they face each other, it is a show stealing match. It also was in the opener, so it had more of a chance to shine. I don’t think we’ll be forgetting about Devlin any time soon.

-       1: Goldberg (NR)

WWE

WWE

I feel weird putting him number one, but I think that is the most buzzworthy thing to come out of this week’s action. Goldberg was the last man standing with an encounter with The Fiend to close out Friday Night SmackDown. That is insane. If Goldberg is healthy during the entirety of the match, I think they will put on a great, hard-hitting match. Goldberg winning doesn’t make sense, but crazier things have definitely happened.
