In this series I highlight three things to do for the people in the Charlotte, NC area and anyone who may be visiting our awesome city this weekend.  Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in America with plenty to offer everyone.  So, let’s take a look at three things you can do this weekend (Friday, February 14th through Sunday, February 16th):

1. Oddities and Curiosities Expo (Saturday)

This one is weird.  But the people who put on the event wouldn’t have it any other way.  This expo travels the country to showcase all things weird including, but not limited to: taxidermy, preserved specimens, original artwork, horror/Halloween-inspired pieces, antiques, handcrafted oddities, weird medical devices, clothing, jewelry, and skulls/bones.  According to their website, they “truly have something weird for everyone.”  If you consider yourself weird, or are at least curious about this event, general admission tickets are only $10, while kids 12 & under are free.  The event lasts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center.

2. Cars and Coffee (Saturday)

Calling all car lovers here, Cars and Coffee is an event that will take place on the 3rd Saturday of each month this year (excluding May and October) from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  It’s a “cruise-in” style event where the Fan Zone will be transformed into a gathering area for car enthusiasts and their classic cars/hot rods.  And perhaps the coolest part of the entire thing is from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., you can drive your personal vehicle around the famous race track.  For $25, you can take three laps around the speedway and 100% of the money will go the Speedway Children’s Charities.  If you just want to be part of the morning festivities, everything is completely free.  Just make sure to bring your morning coffee to help get you moving!

3. College Baseball Opening Weekend (All Weekend)

This one is directed toward the local teams, Charlotte 49ers and Davidson Wildcats, but opening weekend for college baseball will be taking place all over the country.  Charlotte will be taking on VCU with games at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and a noon game on Sunday.  All games will take place at Hayes Stadium.  Davidson will be at home as well, at Wilson Field, taking on Lehigh at 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday, and noon Sunday.  We’re finally supposed to have a sunny weekend, so get out and enjoy the weather and catch the first college baseball games of the year.  Tickets can be purchased at the event or online at either team’s website.  Go 49ers!  Go Wildcats!
