AEW Power Rankings: Week of October 22nd 2020

This week’s Dynamite was mostly dominated by the first round of the AEW World Championship Number One Contender Tournament. There were 4 First Round matches, not to mention a women’s match and a number one contender match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. It was a really solid show this week with a lot of great matches. Here are the rankings for the week.

5: Chris Jericho/MJF

This was my favorite segment of the night, but it was an entertainment angle rather than a meaningful angle. There isn’t much to say about what these two did, so i’ll link the video and let you be entertained.

4: Dr. Britt Baker

Baker had her first mach in nearly a month and picked up a nice win this week. She defeated Kilynn King using her lockjaw submission move. It appears that the Doctor is in line to be in title contention pretty soon.

3: Rey Fenix

In an odd matchup against his tag team partner this week, Fenix defeated Penta El Zero M. It appears that Fenix was injured during the match, so despite winning, he will not be able to continue in the tournament. However, this match was a really solid showing from both guys. Too bad Fenix isn’t going to move on.

2: Kenny Omega

Kenny Omega looked like a different performer than what we have been accustomed to in AEW thus far. NJPW fans have seen this side of Omega though and it looks like he is in for a massive push in the near future. Omega is a once-in-a-generation performer and it is good to see him getting first official singles run in AEW.

1: The Young Bucks

The Bucks defeated 3 other teams to earn a shot at FTR and the AEW World Tag Team Championships. It looks like we will see this match at Full Gear and it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see this match end the show. It has the potential to be that good and my early prediction isn’t going out on a limb, but I think Matt and Nick earn their first reign as AEW Tag Champs.
