Possible Scenarios for 2020 Women's Royal Rumble Match

If you haven’t checked my Men’s Scenarios article from yesterday, here it is. Today we will be focusing on the scenarios of the women’s match and like last year, I think there are fewer clear-cut possibilities in the women’s match compared to the men. Despite this though, it should be a wonderful match and I hope we get to see some surprises that we are apt to see each year.

WOMEN’S ROYAL RUMBLE

Last year, there were only a couple viable options to win the Rumble in the women’s division and this year seems like more of the same. Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair were basically the only two options to win the Rumble in 2019, but there are at least a couple more possibilities. It will be interesting to see what direction they go in, but I think the emphasis on NXT this year will play a big factor in this match.

If She’s In, She Wins

I did a similar category last year in the men’s division with a returning legend and a free agent possibility, but this one is a little different. The only clear option here is Ronda Rousey. If Rowdy enters the Rumble this year, she will be facing Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36 and there is no doubt about that. Rousey had a gruesome injury on the set of television show a few months ago, so I don’t know if that has properly healed, but if her finger is healed, look out. I personally am ready for Ronda to come back. She was an amazing addition to the women’s division, unlike what Cain Velasquez is trying to do in the men’s division. I don’t expect Rousey to be there next Sunday, but I am certainly ready if she does make an appearance.

Odds-On Favorite

Ronda Rousey is the performer with the second-highest odds, but the favorite is the most recent former NXT Women’s Champion. Shayna Baszler’s odds currently sit at 2/3, which is insane. I remember Seth Rollins being a heavy favorite last year, but his odds weren’t quite that high. Baszler has been absent from TV on NXT ever since she lost the title to Rhea Ripley last month, other than the Women’s Battle Royal that took place on NXT this week. If she wins, and clearly it is a good possibility, she more than likely will face Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36. That potential pairing doesn’t really excite me personally, but I guess it could be a lot worse.

Will The Queen Add to Her Legacy?

WWE

WWE

Charlotte Flair has only competed in one Rumble match and that was last year. She was the last superstar thrown out and I think she could be in for another strong performance. Her odds are currently around 10/1, but I personally think she should have higher odds. The fact that she is in the match, you have to automatically think that she is a favorite going into it. Adding a Royal Rumble win to her résumé would just be another accomplishment to a career unlike any other women’s competitor.

Possible Returns

There are a few choices that could make a surprise return in the women’s rumble.  Nia Jax is one of them. She has been out of action since February of 2019 and she has been recovering from double knee surgery. Nia is one of those performers that is such a force in the ring, she will be tough to eliminate. The former RAW Women’s champ will have a solid shot to win the Rumble, if she is ready to return. Another possibility could be Naomi. It is easy to forget that Naomi is a 2-time SmackDown Women’s Champion and that is a real shame. She is a talented performer and a good run next Sunday night could be just what she needs to revitalize her career. Ruby Riott is also another superstar that could make a return. And while I’m at it, Paige could be thrown in there also, but I’m not going to go into to detail, because I just don’t think it will happen.

Will It Be Boss Time Next Sunday?

WWE

Sasha Banks is another strong possibility to win the Rumble and to be perfectly honest, she has the most potential options for a WrestleMania 36 match. I would assume that she would go after the SmackDown Women’s Championship, but who will she face? Lacey Evans has been kinda feuding with both Sasha and Bayley, but if I had to make a guess, Lacey Evans will face Bayley for the title at Royal Rumble. If they decide to put the belt on Lacey next Sunday, it could set up a continuation of her feud with both Sasha and Bayley and it could set up a triple threat at WrestleMania 36. If Bayley retains and Sasha wins the Rumble, it could set up a mega separation between the two. There are a lot of different things that could happen with a Sasha Banks win next Sunday.

Under the Radar Possibilities

WWE

WWE

This section may be a waste, because I can’t really think of any women’s performers that could be flying under the radar at the moment. The biggest name that kind of stands out is Io Shirai. It was reported last week that she was unhappy at NXT, so a push to a major title by way of the Royal Rumble could be just what she needs to stay. I would love to see Shirai facing superstars like Lynch, Flair, Asuka, Sasha, Bayley, the list goes on. She has never faced any of those in a singles match and that would open up a ton of potential if she moves on from NXT. One of my bold predictions for 2020 was that Nikki Cross would win a Women’s Championship this year. Could she win the Rumble? She definitely could, but I doubt it will actually happen.
