WWE Power Rankings: Week of August 1st

I can’t believe it’s already August, but here we are. SummerSlam is in less than a couple weeks and storylines and angles are starting to heat up. I thought both shows this week were very solid and I hope that is a sign of things to come moving forward. Some things aren’t completely adding up as far as storylines go, but I think we’ll see them hit harder next week leading into the PPV. Here is my Top 10 for this week.

-      10: Maria Kanellis (NR)

WWE

WWE

Maria is the first pregnant WWE champion in history, whatever that’s worth. This storyline is interesting to say the least and Maria is currently the 24/7 Champion and it still continues to be a big part of the weekly programs. I don’t know what is next and that is a great thing.

-      9: Ali (NR)

WWE

WWE

Ali is making his second appearance on the Power Rankings this year and he had a big win on SmackDown. He faced Shinsuke Nakamura, who happens to be the Intercontinental Champion at the moment. It is just a matter of time before Ali gets a title and it could be sooner than we think.

-      8: Dolph Ziggler (3)

WWE

WWE

Ziggler was featured a lot this week. He lost on RAW by DQ because of Brock Lesnar, but he had a big win on SmackDown in a meaningful segment. He faced Finn Bálor and with the help of a certain fiend, he managed to pick up a win. It looks like Ziggler will be in a match at SummerSlam, but nothing is official as to who he will face.

-      7: Bray Wyatt (2)

Speaking of a certain fiend, Bray Wyatt is coming in at number 7 this week. He had an episode of Firefly Fun House and made an appearance to through off Finn Bálor in his match on Tuesday. I’m excited to see Wyatt back in action at SummerSlam and hopefully he gets the push he deserves afterwards.

-      6: Roman Reigns (9)

WWE

WWE

Roman is back in the Top 10 this week to the surprise of nobody. Roman was involved in segments that ended both RAW and SmackDown this week, which in itself is worthy of a spot in the Top 10. He looked strong on Monday night with he and The Usos getting the better of Samoa Joe, but Tuesday was a little questionable for The Big Dog. Shelves collapsed on him as he was getting ready for an interview. Don’t know what that was about, but expect him to have a match next Sunday.

-      5: Ricochet (NR)

WWE

WWE

Ricochet will be facing AJ Styles at SummerSlam for the United States Championship and he will look to get back what he had. It should be a good match regardless of the result. Ricochet came out on top of a gauntlet match on RAW with a lot of credible talent in it. I personally thought that Andrade would win the match, but I have no problem with Ricochet winning here. We’ll just have to wait until next Sunday to see what happens next.

-      4: The OC (NR)

WWE

WWE

First off, I think the new name is kind of stupid, but it isn’t all about the name. What matters is what they can do with the name. They are the new RAW Tag Team Champions and it was just a matter of time. It appears that this new faction will be a force for at least the next few months. This is the perfect heel group to get over a good face group, but I’m interested to see what is next for this group.

-      3: Kevin Owens (1)

WWE

WWE

After taking over the top spot in the last 3 weeks, KO is number 3 this week. He kicked off the show on Tuesday with a quick promo and a great match with Drew McIntyre. The match was a rare lengthy television match and it made both superstars look good. Owens winning is clearly the best option moving forward, but McIntyre needs a push desperately and hopefully he gets it soon.

-      2: Kofi Kingston (5)

WWE

WWE

The WWE champ looked strong yet again this week in his match with the US champ, AJ Styles. He came away with the win despite pressure from The OC throughout the match. It was probably the match of the week in a great week of programming and his bout with Randy Orton should be a good match. Earlier I mentioned that I think he could lose the title, but with weeks like this one, it makes it harder for me to believe that he will lose it. We shall see.

-      1: Brock Lesnar (NR)

WWE

WWE

Here is your monthly Brock Lesnar appearance and this week it is at the number one spot. He brutally attacked Seth Rollins and these actions got him over more than he has been in a long time. It appears that Lesnar is poised for another lengthy reign, but maybe the extravagance of the beating that Rollins endured on Monday night will be just the momentum he needs to put him over next Sunday. Whatever happens, expect Rollins to continue to take beatings.
