Song of the Day: The Ballad of Curtis Loew

There’s no better way to get your Monday morning going than with Lynyrd Skynyrd. “The Ballad of Curtis Loew” was written by band members Allen Collins and Ronnie Van Zant and was released on the album Second Helping in 1974. Instead of representing one guy, Curtis Loew was actually based on a few different people in the community where the band is originated in Jacksonville, Florida. As good of a song this is, it was only performed live once by the original band before several of the band members’ lives tragically came to an end in the Mississippi woods in 1977.
