Who's Next?

Last week, WWE announced that Goldberg would be returning to the ring for the upcoming Saudi Arabia event on June 7th. This would be his first match since losing the Universal Championship to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33. Goldberg’s name was tossed around as a possible name to appear at AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV, but it doesn’t look like he will be making that appearance. The upcoming Saudi Arabia PPV hasn’t been named yet, but it appears that we will also see The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar at the event. Undertaker had a run-in with Elias on the RAW after WrestleMania, but other than that, nothing more has been mentioned about that possible feud. Lesnar is also a question mark in terms of a feud. He could get a rematch for the Universal Championship, but I’m not entirely sure. The real question that the article is about is “Who’s Next?”

I see three possible opponents for Goldberg at the Saudi Arabia event. I can’t imagine him being in a long match, because he rarely had long matches when he was in his prime. The best match for him will be a hard-hitting, destructive match with very little time wasted. In all scenarios, I can’t see him winning. I think the person he faces will be the winner regardless of who it is. The first name that comes to mind is Lars Sullivan. He has yet to make his in-ring debut since getting the call up in early April and if they want to put him over, there wouldn’t be many better options than Goldberg. It would give Sullivan a chance to shine and it would give him a great start to his career.

Another option could be The Monster Among Men. Strowman has been relevant enough to be seen on television, but not relevant enough to be in the title picture in the last 6 months. A match between he and Goldberg would be one to get people talking about him again. Just a few months ago, Strowman was the favorite to be the new Universal Champion at Crown Jewel, but lost the match to Brock Lesnar. Strowman won the Greatest Royal Rumble at the first Saudi Arabia event a year ago, so it may be time to put him over in a big match at this PPV.

The next and last possible scenario I can see for Goldberg is Roman Reigns. This just feels like the thing that will happen. It doesn’t appear that Reigns will be immediately placed into the WWE Championship discussion, so a match with a returning legend makes total sense. Roman said is appearing on RAW tonight because he had business to take care of, despite WWE saying that he will not, but what business could Roman Reigns be talking about when he mentioned it on Twitter? My guess is that either he challenges Undertaker or Goldberg, but I think Goldberg is a safer bet. As we all remember, Roman Reigns defeated Undertaker at WrestleMania two years ago, so a rematch would not make sense. Back in July in an interview, Goldberg mentioned that he had two more guys on his list for future matches. One was Undertaker and the other was Roman Reigns. I’m going to assume that Undertaker is still feuding with Elias, so it looks like Roman Reigns would be the guy to step up, because I’d venture to say Goldberg is getting to choose his opponent. We could find out tonight on RAW, so you don’t want to miss it.
