Mike Trout Is Definitely Signing In Philly In 2 Years

Let me just go ahead put this out there, Mike Trout is definitely signing for the Philadelphia Phillies after the 2020 MLB season and we will absolutely be seeing an outfield roamed by both Trout and Harper. Now this blog is obviously coming off the heels of Bryce Harper’s comments about recruiting Trout to Philly in 2 years, but I’ve felt that he’s been destined for Philadelphia for a couple of years now and even more so now that Harper is in Philly.

After Mike Trout signed his 6 yr $145 mil contract at the age of 23 in 2015, he’s went on to establish himself as the best player in baseball by a mile(he might be the goat). During this time, I’ll at least give the Angels some credit for trying to “go for it” but it’s just never worked out for them. They have a tendency of paying big money for players who turn out to be on the downside of their career. In the 4 seasons since Trout has signed, the Angels have failed to make the playoffs every single year and have finished with a losing record twice. I mean Mike Trout has finished 2nd, 1st, 4th(he was injured) and 2nd in the MVP voting each of those years and they still haven’t been able to make the playoffs once. Not even a wildcard game. I feel that Mike Trout is a very loyal player and is obviously going to put on his best night in and night out, but this eventually has to wear on a player. Especially, when you are the best player in baseball and arguably the best player in their individual sport in the world. So there’s his excuse for having an out from the Los Angeles Angels and not being a one team player in his career.

Then the Philadelphia Phillies come into the picture. Not only are they an up and coming team but they have money and are willing to spend it. While they gave Bryce Harper a huge 13yr $330 million deal, it’s only an AAV of around $25 million. Say it takes $35 million a year to land Trout, that’s still only $60 million tied up into Trout and Harper and I would take that every single day of the week. I mean the Red Sox have been paying Pablo Sandoval $20 million for the past 5 yrs and he played a whopping 161 games in 3 total season before they finally cut him. There’s a lot worse ways to spend $60 million a year, and while the Phillies would probably regret it towards the end of the deals, they for sure wouldn’t for the first handful of years. Can you imagine how must watch Phillies games would be with both Trout and Harper in the outfield? They’d make their money back in the first few seasons from ticket and jersey sales.

So you combine all this with the fact that Mike Trout is from just outside of Philadelphia and is at least a documented die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, then you have a match made in heaven. Writing this blog I have 100% convinced myself that there is no chance this doesn’t happen and that I need to go put some money on it ASAP while the odds are still hot. Granted I was definitely saying the same thing about Bryce Harper to the Yankees 2 yrs ago, but who would have thought that they would have opted for Aaron Hicks over Harper Lol.
