The NY Giants Wanting To Extend Eli Manning Into 2020 Is Actually Genius

So Pro Football Talk came out out with an interesting tidbit about the NY Giants not only wanting to move forward with Eli as their QB for the upcoming 2019 season but also extending him into the 2020 season. Who would have thought that a year a half after Eli’s famous starting streak came to an end when he was benched for Geno Smith in 2017, that not only would the Giants not draft a QB and Eli start all 16 games last year, but that he might also be there and starting for the next 2 seasons. Now to some, this news is shocking to say the least, but that’s for short-sighted people. That’s for the people who want the franchise to be good and competing this year, which if we are being honest isn’t a possibility. While you might have Saquon Barkley, that’s pretty much all you have at the moment. This team needs a massive overhaul and rebuild and what better way to do that than with Eli Manning at QB.

The next two years should be the Giants trading away any aging players and loading up on draft picks. They already got a nice return with a 1st and a 3rd rd pick for Odell Beckham, granted they did lose a top 5 receiver in the game but that’s not going to matter because this team is looking at 2021 and beyond. I mean look at the upcoming draft and tell me which QB you actually think is worth wasting a first round pick on. Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock are projected as the top 3 QBs to go in this year’s draft and while they could turn out to be decent NFL QBs, I trust none of them enough to spend a #6 overall pick on. The following year, the obvious big name QB is Tua, so maybe a tank for Tua? But that’s not what the NY football Giants are looking to do either if they’re signing up Eli for another year in 2020. If the NY Giants are looking to go this route, their is only 1 name that they have in mind for who can lead this franchise to the promise land and yep you already know the answer. It’s Sunshine, aka Trevor Lawrence, the freshman QB that led Clemson the national title over Alabama and looks more pro-ready than any QB in this year’s draft. I know he’s only a freshman but Trevor Lawrence looks like the most can’t miss QB since Andrew Luck, the guy that Colts were willing to go 2-14 in 2011 and let one of the best QBs in history walk for. If I was a fan of a team that is in need of a QB, I honestly wouldn’t mind sucking for the next 2 years just to get Lawrence, the kid is that good. The NY Giants considering signing up Eli for 2020 is just a sign that they’re playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers.
