WWE Power Rankings: Week of March 28th - April 2nd

Only one more week until WrestleMania and things are heating up and most of the matches are set for the PPV. Yet again, SmackDown won the battle of the shows this week, but RAW had some good points as well. A title changed hands and it has big implications involving WrestleMania. Another big title match was confirmed and a couple other matches were confirmed as well. With only one more week left, WrestleMania cannot get here soon enough. I really didn’t have any trouble finding 10 superstars to rank this week, but it was difficult as to where to place them. Here are this week’s Power Rankings and I hope you enjoy them.

10: Triple H (NR)

A big stipulation was added to the WrestleMania match between Batista and Triple H. Batista only agreed to show up at WrestleMania if Triple H puts his career on the line. Triple H agreed and now the feud gained a little more heat. Batista didn’t show up on this week’s shows, but Triple H read a letter than came from Batista’s camp. Triple H delivered another great promo, but he can dictate what he says. I wish other superstars had that kind of control, because feuds would seem more realistic. Hopefully things will start to change as far as promos go for other superstars, but only the chosen few get to say what they want.

9: Kurt Angle (7)

Kurt Angle appeared on both RAW and SmackDown this week for his retirement tour. On Monday, he faced Samoa Joe and defeated him in an entertaining match. The momentum was clearly in Joe’s favor, but Angle pulled away with the victory. On Tuesday night, he faced AJ Styles, but the match ended in a DQ in Styles’ favor. Randy Orton snuck in the ring to attack Styles pretty early in the match. The fact that he was on the show twice and one of the matches was pretty solid is the only reason Angle is still on the list. Tuesday night was the worst segment of the night by a good margin, but he solidified his status in the Top 10 with his match with Samoa Joe on Monday night.

8: Drew McIntyre (2)

McIntyre is coming in at the 8 spot this week after a very strong week last week. His WrestleMania opponent was made to look stronger this week, but McIntyre ended the show with a win against Dean Ambrose. I wasn’t sure if we would ever see Ambrose in WWE, but we got him for at least one more match in a Last Man Standing match. I think they have a big push on the horizon for McIntyre and WrestleMania may speed things up with his push.

7: Roman Reigns (NR)

Like I mentioned with McIntyre, his opponent looked stronger this week. Roman Reigns was the winner of the promo, just due to the nature of his rebuttal. Although Reigns didn’t have a match, the attack on McIntyre was just enough to put him in the 7 spot this week. Roman will have his first singles match since his return and that has created a lot of excitement among the WWE Universe. This is quietly becoming one of the best storylines heading in to next Sunday and the outcome isn’t a very predictable one, so stay tuned.

6: The Miz (5)

I debated keeping The Miz in the Top 5 again this week, because he looked very strong this week. He and Shane McMahon had a promo segment this week and McMahon brought out some extra security and some extra superstars to defend himself from The Miz. The Miz boiled through everybody, but Shane left the stage before The Miz could get to him. I don’t know what they have planned for next week, but they have had sufficient build for this feud and should be an entertaining match.

5: Seth Rollins (NR)

The segment that Rollins was in this week wasn’t particularly outstanding, but it was one that made him look strong. As I was watching RAW, I noticed a great deal of fans reacting negatively to Rollins’ promo. He obviously isn’t the best talker in the business, but he doesn’t have to be. His in-ring ability does his talking and any promo that is slightly better than an average promo will be great for him. He is currently the favorite to win the Universal Championship for the first time in his career next Sunday and it will be interesting to see how that match plays out.

4: Ronda Rousey (3)

Ronda loses a spot this week, but that isn’t to say she wasn’t featured. She was, but the other two women involved in her feud were better this week. RAW opened up this week with a beat the clock challenge for what appeared to just be for bragging rights. Ronda opened up the contest with a 1:25 victory over Sarah Logan. She didn’t win the contest, but obviously looked like she was in dialed in. This segment didn’t do anything to help the feud, but it did manage to make 2/3 of the Riott Squad look bad. With a title change on SmackDown, I’m interested to see what happens next week on RAW.

3: Becky Lynch (4)

The Man was the winner of the Beat the Clock Challenge on the opening segment of RAW. She defeated Liv Morgan in 1:18 to win the challenge, but like I said earlier, it really didn’t do anything, but make the Riott Squad look weak. Now with the change in the landscape of the SmackDown Women’s division, this may be an indication that Becky Lynch will make even more history on next Sunday’s PPV. She didn’t compete on Tuesday night, but she did make an appearance in an interview. The WrestleMania main event got more interesting this week, let’s see what they have in store for us next week. Also, it was reported that Lynch received a big contract offer this week from the WWE, but hasn’t accepted anything yet, so it sounds like we’ll see a lot more of Becky Lynch.

2: Charlotte Flair (9)

And here is your NEW SmackDown Women’s Champion. In what was supposed to be a scheduled Fatal 4-Way for the number one contender spot at WrestleMania, that match was scratched and Charlotte Flair was given a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The match itself was the best match of the week and Charlotte Flair made Asuka tapped to her Figure-8 Leglock. I hated to see Asuka lose her title in what was a very disappointing reign, but it wasn’t her fault at all. They just didn’t have her booked right from the beginning, but I hope that all changes after WrestleMania, because she deserves better. Charlotte is the new champion, so, what does this mean for the WrestleMania main event? I’m hearing a lot of talk that the Women’s titles will be unified after the PPV, but nothing is official yet. They simply may have just used this as a way to get more attention on Charlotte, because she wasn’t getting a great deal of exposure compared to the other two. We shall see, but I’m excited.

1: The New Day (1, NR, NR)

Kofi Kingston and the rest of The New Day is number one in what was a huge week for them. Kofi Kingston failed to sweep the gauntlet match last week on SmackDown, but his WrestleMania fate was left in the hands of his tag team partners on Tuesday night and they successfully earned a spot for Kofi Kingston in the WWE Championship match. This segment was a brilliant way to get the whole team over rather than just Kofi Kingston and I really think this is a way to build up the team’s desire to defend the title using Freebird Rules. This means that any team member can defend the title. I think this is a really cool concept, but shouldn’t be used for just any team. A team like The New Day is a great option to use this with, because their chemistry is great and at this point I really don’t think they could believable turn heel as a group. I’d say at the moment, Kingston is favored at WrestleMania, but either way, I’m glad he’s in the match.
