College Basketball Roundup: North Carolina Teams

College basketball season is finally here and for folks here in North Carolina, it’s one of the best times of the year.  If you aren’t from the state, or haven’t ever lived here, you just won’t understand the impact it has on so many people here.  Let’s take a look at the opening schedules for teams around the state.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels are my favorite team, so I’ll start with them.  They begin the season ranked #9 in the country.  With many new faces, it will be very interesting to see how the team fares this season.  But like always, there are high expectations and I am confident they will be one of the scarier teams come March.

First Game: Wednesday, November 6 at home vs. Notre Dame (7:00 p.m.)

Prediction: UNC over Notre Dame

Duke Blue Devils

Duke begins the season ranked number 4 in the AP poll.  Like the last handful of years, the team is loaded with highly touted freshmen.  They don’t have the #1, #2, and #3 ranked incoming freshmen this year like they did last, but they are talented nonetheless.  It will be a good test for them on Tuesday night as they open the season against Kansas.

First Game: Tuesday, November 5 in NYC vs. #3 Kansas (7:00 p.m.)

Prediction: Duke over Kansas

NC State Wolfpack

First Game: Tuesday, November 5 at home vs. Georgia Tech (8:30 p.m.)

Prediction: NC State over Georgia Tech

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

First Game: Wednesday, November 6 away vs. Boston College (6:00 p.m.)

Prediction: Wake Forest over Boston College

Appalachian State Mountaineers

First Game: Tuesday, November 5 away vs. Michigan (7:00 p.m.)

Prediction: Michigan over Appalachian State

East Carolina Pirates

First Game: Tuesday, November 5 at home vs. VMI (7:00 p.m.)

Prediction: VMI over East Carolina

UNC-Charlotte 49ers

First Game: Wednesday, November 6 away vs. James Madison (7:30 p.m.)

Prediction: James Madison over Charlotte

UNC-Asheville Bulldogs

First Game: Tuesday, November 5 away vs. Tennessee (7:00 p.m.)
