Today’s song of the day comes from Montgomery, Alabama. On a road trip to Florida, we stopped in the state capitol of Alabama…Montgomery. I had never been to the southern state and wanted to see how history shaped that area of the United States. This song by Alan Jackson is about a drive through Montgomery that led to an encounter with a friend that was quite extraordinary. Country music legend Hank Williams Sr. is featured in the song as a drunk man who seems haunted. While it was fun to see the history of the town…it was quite deserted. There were maybe 10 people in the entire downtown area that spanned for miles and the air did feel quite light and airy. If you listen to the song, you hear Alan Jackson say that Hank is always singing there…he may have been right. Montgomery was quite interesting…quiet and spacious, but it was cool to visit the town where Hank Williams Sr was laid to rest in the Oakwood Annex Cemetery. Enjoy this country classic by one of the most talented country artists ever to perform!

P.S. The town felt completely deserted because, we visited it on a Federal holiday (Columbus Day) so the government workers were off. This did allow me to visit a quiet Montgomery which gave me the inspiration for the song. Haha!
