Thanny's Thoughts: Conference Championship Sunday

I finished up last week by going 2-2 so I am officially 5-2 so far in the playoffs. Last week I was able to get both of the NFC games correct but missed both of the AFC games. Let’s just say that it would be a real shame if I missed the AFC game again this week(wink, wink, you should know what I’m getting at).

Incredibly lazy by Vegas here with both games being -3 to the team with home field advantage. So in this NFC Championship game I’m going to go with New Orleans, even at -3. New Orleans faced a little bit of adversity last week by going down 14 pts early to a team lead by the one and only Nick Foles, but the Saints were able to settle down and come back. This Saints team is also kind of giving me team of destiny vibes. You have their heartbreaking loss in the playoffs last year to the Vikings, Drew Brees playing incredible at the age of 40 with the chance to go out on top, and the fact that this game and the next one wold be played in domes. The Rams on the other hand are a very good team who could definitely win this game, I for one just don’t see it happening. To me this Rams team is still a year away from being the real deal, with them picking up their first playoff win last week under their 2nd yr head coach and quarterback, McVay and Goff. Those two could be the next Payton and Brees in the NFC, but for now it’s still their time at the top. Saints at -3.

So I’m going to give two different answers here with this game, who I actually think is going to win and who I’m going to bet on. I actually like the Patriots in this game, especially at +3, but I plan on betting on the Chiefs because the reverse jinx hasn’t failed me yet. The first game being -3 to the Saints made sense but this game right here, not so much. I would almost lean towards this game being a straight up pick’em, as both teams looked great last week vs really good competition. The key for this game here is going to be the Patriots defense and Patrick Mahomes. If the Patriots defense can even slightly show up and just keep the Chiefs under 28 pts, then I really like the Patriots chances here. And that’s what I’m going with, I think the Pats defense puts in a great performance and Brady and the Pats offense does enough to put point on the board. Brady and Belichick are going to be headed back to the Superbowl for the 3rd year in a row, which I’m going to be incredibly nervous about because I’d rather lose in the AFC Championship than a Superbowl. But remember, in the end I’m betting on the Chiefs and it’s a bet that I will happily lose. Oh yeah one last thing, you know what I’m not looking forward to, how many people are going to talk and say that this game is the passing of the torch from Brady to Mahomes if the Pats do lose. Because you know what? You don’t pass the damn torch after one good season.
