I love Christmas time and I love music, so I thought I would make a list of my top 10 Christmas songs of all-time.  I don’t have time to go into detail about each song and break them all down, so I will just list them and write a few sentences for each.  It is important to note that these are just my personal favorites, and not necessarily what I believe are the GREATEST Christmas songs of all time in general.  Also, I’m sure I missed a couple that I would have a difficult time leaving off this list.  These songs are in no particular order.  Here we go:

1.       Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, by Frank Sinatra

I love Frank Sinatra and this is just a classic.  It also reminds me of Home Alone, which is the 2nd best Christmas movie of all-time, behind Christmas Vacation. Frank just signifies classy, and that’s exactly what this Christmas song is.

2.       This Christmas, by Donny Hathaway

Let’s put some soul into Christmas.  Donny Hathaway is the perfect guy to do that.  This song helps you picture simpler times where everybody is just happy to be together for Christmas, with a fireplace going and good food cooking in the kitchen.  At least that’s what I’m picturing.

3.       Silent Night, by the Temptations

Y’all really thought I was going to make a list without the Temptations?  One of my favorite all-time groups and their Christmas album is just gold.  This one is my favorite off the album.  The mix with Eddie Kendricks’ high voice and Blue’s low voice is like no other.

4.       Christmas in Dixie, by Alabama

This song, too, just helps me envision simpler times.  I love the way this song talks about cities around the country and their experiences at Christmas-time.  It also shouts out “…to Charlotte Caroline.”  Merry Christmas from Dixie.

5.       Please Come Home for Christmas, by the Eagles

The Eagles have such a great sound to them and it definitely shows in this song.  The melody is just so smooth, with a nice little guitar solo.  It also reminds me of Home Alone. Great tune.

6.       The Spirit of Christmas, by Ray Charles

Ooooh man, if there is a smoother song than this, let me know.  Ray is a classic musician who just pours out his soul into his songs.  When you listen to it, you can feel what Ray feels.  And it reminds me of the best Christmas movie of all-time, Christmas Vacation.  It sort of makes you want to reminisce on your fondest Christmas memories, like Clark Griswold did during this song in the movie.

7.       Blue Christmas, Elvis Presley

No list would be complete without the King of Rock & Roll.  This is a classic song that I think everyone likes to try to sing along with in their deepest voices possible.  Long live Elvis.

8.        Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, by Brenda Lee

I’ve always loved this Christmas song.  It just puts you in a good mood and makes you want to cut a rug.  Also, once again, it reminds me of Home Alone.  Man, I guess I didn’t realize how good the soundtrack was in that movie.

9.       Merry Christmas Baby, by Otis Redding

I’ve always loved good ol’ Motown music.  Like I mentioned for Ray Charles, you can just FEEL the music.  Otis Redding puts a lot of feeling in this one.  And I remember listening to this song on an old cd our family has had ever since I can remember.

10.   Winter Wonderland, by Dean Martin

This song just screams Christmas and instantly puts you into the Christmas spirit.  It has such a feel good vibe to it and the imagery throughout the song is so vivid.  I picture people ice skating outdoors and everyone just having a merry time when listening to this song.  It’s another classic that I think everyone enjoys listening to during the Christmas season.
